Born Tyson Luke Fury in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England on August 12, 1988; Tyson came from a lineage of boxing legends. His father John Fury started as a bare-knuckle fighter but later turned pro during the ’80s. His cousins Andy Lee, Hughie Fury, and Hosea Burton are also distinguished boxing champions in the middleweight and heavyweight categories.

Fury started training as a boxer from a very tender age and he participated in different competitions in his area. As an amateur, he won the ABA national championship in 2008. Also, he was a bronze medalist at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships held in 2006. At the end of his youth career, Fury had a record of 31 wins out of 35 fights.

Professional Boxing Career

The furious boxer turned pro in 2008 and his first professional match was against Bela Gyongyosi which he won by knockout in the first round. In the following year, he recorded six more victories in six fights.

Fury hitched the English heavyweight title after defeating John McDermott in September 2009, that was his first professional title. He also won the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles in July 2011, after beating Dereck Chisora. He defended his title against Nicolai Firtha and Naven Pajkic respectively later in the year.

The boxer defeated Martin Rogan in April 2012 to win the Irish heavyweight title and in July of the same year, he won his first WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight championship title after his triumph over Vinny Maddalone. In November 2014, he became the European and British heavyweight champion after defeating Dereck Chisora. He also knocked out Christian Hammer to hold onto his title in February 2015.

Fury achieved a milestone in his career in 2015 when he defeated the long-reigning world champion to win the unified world heavyweight championship. The titles include WBA, The Ring, Lineal, WBO, IBO, and IBF heavyweight titles. The following year, a re-match against Klitschko was fixed but was eventually postponed following Fury’s sprained ankle injury.

Furthermore, Tyson Fury alongside his cousin Hughie Fury was charged with the possession of prohibited substance by the UK Anti-Doping agency. In view of that, Fury vacated his unified world heavyweight title and was further stripped of The Ring’s heavyweight title in February 2018. After being away from boxing for about two years; Fury returned in 2018, winning two fights against Francesco Pianeta and Sefer Seferi respectively.
