Nicole Curtis’ life might appear all rosy when she smiles for the cameras on the Rehab Addict show that has made her a celebrity in America, however, like every other human being on the planet, she has got skeletons in her cupboards. Let’s dig deep into her personal life…
Nicole Curtis’ Personal Life: Who is The Husband/Baby Daddy, Baby
Nicole has had it tough from her early days in life. Simply put, she has always been a hustler. She was born on August 20, 1976, in Lake Orion where she was also raised and attended Lake Orion High School, graduating in 1994, at the age of 18. Curtis grew up poor and as if that was not enough, her life became complicated when she got pregnant in high school.
Her baby daddy was a certain Steve Cimini. Many outlets have reported that she later got married to him but they divorced in 2009. Despite her pregnancy, Curtis was determined to make something out of herself. She attended college in Georgia, Florida and took up many odd jobs to survive including working at Hooters, a restaurant known for her scantily clad waitresses.
Right before graduating from college, Curtis gave birth to a son named Ethan.
After her relationship with Ethan’s father ended, Curtis began dating Shane Maguire, a Minnesota-based businessman. Their relationship went on rosy until she became pregnant sometime in 2015. Nicole was 38 years old at the time.
As she was already a TV star at that time, Nicole became ashamed of having to raise a child on her own for the second time and at the age of almost 40.
As a result, she attempted to hide the pregnancy from the public. While filming for her show, she would ask cameramen to avoid showing her growing bump and when she was out attending public events, she would wear black dresses and strategically hold up her dog to cover her belly.
“I was worried about being judged,” she told .
However, she later revealed that she was expecting a baby much to the shock of her fans. Her baby daddy, Shane Maguire insisted on taking a paternity test which came out positive. The baby, Harper born in 2015.
When Harper turned 6 months old, Shane filed to have a joint custody of his son and the custody battle began with breastfeeding the major talking point. At 6 months old, the court agreed to twice a week visitation from Maguire.
As Harper grew, his dad Shane was given more time to spend with him including overnight visits. However, Curtis has argued that having Harper away for long would interfere with the baby-led weaning that she practices with her son. But Shane only sees it as her way of making him spend less time with Harper.
“It’s important that children have both of their parents. But [preventing] me from breastfeeding my child just so he can see the dad is not right,” Curtis told People.
Nicole Curtis Net Worth
Nicole Curtis came from humble beginnings. To make ends meet, and put herself through college, she worked a series of odd jobs. However, she left college where she was studying for a teaching degree to start her own cleaning business.
She credits her poor background for teaching her to be creative.
“I’ve always decorated very eclectically, partly because I was poor. Being poor makes you very creative. When you have money, you don’t have to be creative.” she once told DIY.
As a child, Curtis would make weekend trips to Detroit suburbs like Flint and Saginaw. During those times she became enamored by classic old-style American mansions.
Thanks to her love and passion for these rustic houses, Curtis via a land contract bought a 1945 rancher-style home in Tampa Florida when she was just 18 years old. Monthly payments for the house were under $600.
In the late 1990s, Curtis began rehabilitating old houses that were marked for demolition beginning with her old family properties in Tampa, Atlanta, and Minneapolis. Gradually she expanded into new areas. In 2012, she sold a Minneapolis house she had bought for $1 for $145,000 after spending $100,000 to rehabilitate it.
Her foray into TV began when she was discovered by the DIY Network. DIY was in search for a real-estate agent in Minneapolis when they discovered Curtis’ website which included “Glamour Shots-type photos.” Producers were impressed and invited her over for a test shoot and the rest is history. Rehab Addict premiered in 2010 and has been incredibly successful.
In addition to Rehab Addict, she has another show with David Bromstad and Josh Temple called Beach Flip. She also owns a self-titled design firm.
Today, Nicole Curtis’ net worth is estimated at $7 million.
