The actor was born in New York on February 27, 1965, to a Jewish family with Constance as his mother and André Emmerich as his father. While his mother is a concert pianist, his father earned a living as a gallery owner and art dealer. Perhaps Emmerich would have been born in Germany had his father not fled the country with his family as a result of the unrest in the country. The family first stayed in Amsterdam, Netherlands before settling down in New York in 1940.

Noah Emmerich has brothers who may not be movie stars but are doing well in their chosen careers. Toby Emmerich is the President and Chief Operating Officer at New Line Cinema and also a screenwriter. On the other hand, Adam Emmerich is a partner at the firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York. He also specializes in mergers and acquisitions.

Noah Emmerich got his early education at the Dalton School and graduated from Yale University with a degree in History. He started building himself for the entertainment industry as a youth when he learned to play the trumpet and privately studied the Meisner technique of acting under the tutelage of Ron Stetson, an actor/director.

The actor later launched his acting career in the film Beautiful Girls to critical acclaim. Both the audience and film critics applauded his performance, paving the way for more roles to flood in.
