Ousmane Dembele’s Bio

It was on 15 May 1997 that the footballer was born in Vernon, Northern France. Like a few of the current French players, Ousmane Dembele has his roots in Africa as his parents, Ousmane Snr and Fatimata Dembele came to France as immigrants looking for a better life. He is of Senegalese, Mauritanian, and Malian descent.

Since he was a little child, Dembele had his eyes set strictly on the sports for which he would come to be very famous. As a result of this, he would, unlike his brother and sister, give little attention to school. Instead, he took to the streets playing football with other kids.

When he was just 6 years old, Dembele’s mom travelled with him from Mauritania where the family had moved to, to France to meet Badou Sambagué who would get to help him as a footballer and later assist him as his agent.

Before long, he got to start his career as well as a journey that would in years to come, see him at the edge of the World Cup finals.

Football Career

Ousmane began his career like most other players in a youth club, Madeleine Évreux. He was with the club from 2004 to 2009, before moving to Evreux to spend a year and moved again to Rennes in 2010.

Dembele started his senior career with Rennes II in 2014 before moving to Rennes in 2015. It was the move of the French footballer to Borussia Dortmund in 2016 that drew the eyes of the world to him. After 32 games and 2 goals to his name, the interest of the Spanish giants, Barcelona was rested on him and in 2017, he signed a deal that is over $122 million. By the end of the of the 2017/2018 season, Dembele had already seen the back of the net 4 times after playing in 23 games.

Before signing for Barcelona, many other clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham were all looking to have his signature.

While his career is still rather very young, he has already won a number of titles and awards such as the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund as well as the La Liga and Copa del Rey with Barcelona. He was named UNFP Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2016 and the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season in 2017.

Without having to play in the younger teams for France, Ousmane Dembele got a call to the senior team in 2016. He recorded his first goal for the Blues 2017 in a game against England and in 2018, he was called to the FIFA World Cup in Russia where he has played a crucial role in helping the team reach the final.

By the time he reached his 16th game for the French national team, Dembele had only two goals to his name, but that doesn’t mean he is not very important to the team.

Family

Once compared to , one of the things that Dembele holds dear to his heart apart from football is his family, especially his mother, Fatimata Dembélé. She is said to have a very big influence on the life of the player so much that she can make him accept or reject a deal.

He in 2017 when he was still with Dortmund, but the cause of death was not stated. He also has a brother, Malick Dembélé as well as a sister.
