Paul Pierce Biography

Paul Pierce was born on October 13, 1977, as Paul Anthony Pierce in Oakland, California to a single mum Lorraine Hosey. He was raised along with his two half-brothers, Jamel Hosey and Steve Hosey. His family moved to Inglewood where attended Inglewood high school with his half-brothers. Lorraine Hosey encouraged her kids to participate in sports activities while in high school. Jamal played hoops for Inglewood high, and it earned him a scholarship to Wyoming. Paul’s other half-brother rather opted for baseball. Paul’s own choice of sport is more of history today.

When Paul enrolled at Inglewood high school in 1991. He had an issue with his weight. He could only make the bench of the team. Though he had the talents, according to Sentinels team coach Pat Roy, he didn’t just look good on the court because of his stature. His opportunity to start came when a majority of the team senior players went on vacation. Paul grabbed the opportunity with both hands and until his days with Sentinels was over, he never let the first team spot go. He impressed his coach on his first start, scoring 12 points, got 7 rebounds and helped bring back the Sentinels from a 17 point deficit all by himself. When the senior starter’s returned from vacation, it was their turn to watch Paul from the sidelines. He won the 1995 California player of the year and was also named a McDonald’s All-American. He received offers to play hoops for several colleges across the nation for teams like the UCLA but Paul chose not to be far from home, so he chose to attend Kansas University, where he majored in crime studies.

During his time at Kansas University, he played for Jayhawks. In the 1996/1997 season, Paul helped Jayhawks achieve a feat it has never reached, for the first time in history, Kansas was ranked number one in the country. He, however, left the University in 1998 to join the NBA draft.

Boston Celtics could only count their stars during the draftings. The first ten teams to draft all failed to recognize Paul’s talent, as it left Paul embarrassed, sitting in the room and watching the smaller players being picked, owing to the fact that he was the best small forward in that room. Paul was a Los Angeles resident, and they are accustomed haters of Boston Celtics, so being picked by Boston Celtics in the draft was not exciting to him, neither was it a dream come through for him. He has grown up loving the Lakers.

He kicked off his professional NBA career with Boston Celtics in 1998 and spent 15 years with them. During his time at Boston Celtics, he played as a small forward and wore the number 34 jersey. He led his team to the playoffs in 2002, which was Boston Celtics first in seven years. He made the all-star team five times in a roll when he was included in the all-star team in each season between 2002 and 2006. In 2008, Paul Pierce was named NBA final MVP after he helped guard Boston Celtics to the 2008 championship title, the only NBA championship he won in the course of his career, defeating a inspired LA Lakers.

But Pierce spent just one season with the Nets. The following season, he signed for Washington Wizards on a two years deal. Again, he spent a season with the Wizards before moving back home to Los Angeles, signing a three years deal with his final NBA team, LA Clippers in 2015.

On September 26, 2016, Paul Pierce announced to the world that the 2016/2017 season was going to be his final season playing basketball. On April 30, 2017 Pierce played his final NBA game for LA Clippers against Utah Jazz.
