As a player, Pete enjoyed an illustrious trophy-laden baseball career, spanning over 20 years with 3 different teams. Pete Rose was born Pete Edward Rose on the 14th of April 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Harry “Pete” Francis and LaVerne Rose. Harry and LaVerne had 3 other children besides Pete, however, the names of these children remain unknown. Pete has always been keen on sports, even as a very young boy. His parents spotted this predilection and permitted him to join the Order of DeMolay for their sporting activities. This laid the foundation to what will end up being a very successful baseball career.

Education

Pete Rose attended Western Hills High School, Cincinnati, Ohio. As a student, Pete was very active in sports. He was in his school’s baseball and freshman football team. He was so good at football that despite his size, he was made the team’s running back. However, Pete was left despondent when he was overlooked during his school’s varsity football team selection. This was a very depressing time for him and it began to take its toll on his studies.

Luckily for Pete, his father stepped in and helped him navigate this trying period of his life. That year, his father encouraged him to participate in a baseball summer camp for teenagers. This helped Pete forget about his football woes and enabled him to channel all his bottled up indignation to baseball.

He became more vested in baseball in his senior year and with the help of his uncle, Bloebaum, Pete signed his first professional contract with the Cincinnati Reds. This was immediately after he graduated from Western Hills High.

MBL Career

Pete Rose made his MLB debut on the 8th of April 1963. It was the opening day baseball game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It wasn’t really a great game for him as he drew a walk. However, 10 years down the line, he would go on to lead the league with an astonishing 230 hits and a 338 batting average. His spectacular performance that season inspired the Cincinnati Reds a.k.a “the Big Red Machine” to win the 1973 National League Championship Series. Rose won the National League MVP award for his efforts.

On the 5th of May 1978, Rose would rewrite the record books by becoming the 13th player in the history of the MLB to attain 300 career hits. Pete would go on to set and break more records in the MLB, attaining some remarkable numbers in the process. He had an amazing record of 4,256 hits, making him the all-time MLB leader in hits. He had an overall 3,562 games played, 14,053 at-bats, 3,215 singles, and 10,328 outs. Pete also made 17 All-Star appearances, won three batting titles, one Most Valuable Player Award, and was awarded the National League Rookie of the Year Award in his first year as a professional baseball player. In the course of his baseball career, Pete also played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1979-1983) and the Montreal Expos (1984).

Pete Rose returned to the Cincinnati Reds initially as a player-manager and eventually became the manager from 1984-1989. The only blight in his awesome career was his despicable act of gambling on baseball games in which he was directly involved as a player and manager. His penalty was permanent ineligibility from baseball. Aside from baseball, Pete also served his country briefly in the army, appeared on WWE, and became a Fox Sports analyst.
