Petra Kvitova is a Czech tennis player who has risen to become one of the most known names in the sports since turning professional in 2006. Making her best ranking as the 2nd in the world in 2011, the left-handed player has over 30 career titles to her name including 2 Wimbledon titles. Here are things to know about her.

Petra Kvitova Bio

It was on 8 March 1990 that the tennis player was born in the Bilovec town of Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic.

She was raised alongside two elder brothers by their father who was a teacher and his wife. Their family was a poor one which couldn’t even afford to own a car, but for all they had, they were content with. Interestingly enough, Petra got introduced to the game of tennis through her father who did not just train her but also trained her brothers to play, but it was Petra Kvitova that grew up with a real knack for the sports.

As a result of how much time she had to devote to training and playing tennis, the Czech national didn’t have many friends growing up. While she started practicing since she was a kid, her father who cried deeply the time she won the 2012 Wimbledon title kept on practicing with her until she was 16. They always practiced in Fulnek which is her hometown.

With a career running since 2006, Petra Kvitova started making a name for herself rather early, but it was from 2010 that her career took a proper shape. This helped her to win the WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and then the WTA Player of the Year in 2011 among many other awards.

Petra Kvitova has won many titles including the 2012 Wimbledon which she defeated and in 2014 when she defeated Eugenie Bouchard. She has also been to three other Gland Slam semi-finals. As at 2018, the left-handed tennis star still had a record of 473–206. Petra’s father goes by the name Jiri Kvitova while her mother is called Pavla Kvitová. She is the youngest among 3 children born in the family which comprise of her two elder brothers: Jiří Kvita and Libor Kvita. While Jiří is an engineer, Libor is a teacher. The three siblings played tennis when they were still young and it was all courtesy of their father who trained them.

The star player has been in a number of relationships in the past, even as she is not yet married. The first relationship that she was publicly known to have gone into was with Adam Pavlasek who she dated from 2011 to 2013.

After the two broke up, the next boyfriend of Petra Kvitova was fellow Czech tennis star, Radek Stepanek who also has a history of dating tennis players. The relationship between the two of them only lasted from 2013 to 2014.

 

In 2014 after her relationship with Stepanek, she got into another relationship with ice hockey player, Radek Meidl whom she announced that she was engaged to in 2015. Unfortunately, the relationship ended in 2016. Since the end of this relationship, she is yet to have any boyfriend publicly.

That landed her in the twelfth spot on the list of world tennis rankings while she stood in the sixth spot among the highest paid female tennis players.
