Philip Walter Foden (born 28 May 2000) is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Manchester City in the Premier League and for the England national team. He is regarded as one of the world’s best young players.
Following England’s successful Under-17 World Cup campaign in 2017, Foden made his professional football debut by winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball trophy. In the same year, he made his City debut and was voted BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in December.

Foden was raised in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and was a lifelong Manchester City fan. He began his association with the club when he was four years old, and in July 2016, he signed his Academy scholarship. Manchester City-funded for his tuition at St Bede’s College, where he received a private education. Foden was included in Pep Guardiola’s matchday squad for City’s Champions League group stage match against Celtic on December 6, 2016, although he was an unused substitute in the 1–1 home draw.

Foden started for City in the FA Community Shield on 5 August 2018, playing 75 minutes and assisting Agüero’s first goal of the game in a 2–0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. In doing so, he assisted the team in tying the record for the greatest winning margin in the competition’s knockout phase.
At the age of 18 years and 288 days, he became Man City’s youngest ever goalscorer in the Champions League and the youngest English goalscorer to score in the competition’s knockout rounds. He earned his first league appearance for the club in a 2–0 win over Cardiff City at the start of the next month, becoming the club’s youngest English player since Daniel Sturridge in 2008. After the game, Pep Guardiola informed the press that Foden would be a crucial player for Manchester City “for the next decade.”
