This English lad turned Youtube veteran is definitely where he needs to be. Phil Lester has worked his way up from several odd jobs to where is today. He is an English Youtuber who started out in 2006 – in internet years that is akin to being a grandfather. But besides conquering the world of online video, Lester has also been a radio personality and has worked with the likes of BBC Radio 1 on their shows Dan and Phil and Internet Takeover.

Lester was born on the penultimate day of January in 1987 in the Rawtenstall, a town in the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire, England. Information about his parents are unknown but he has a brother, an older sibling named Martyn.

Lester and his brother Martyn had their high school education at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Linguistics and a Master of Arts in Video Production with Visual Effects in 2008 and 2009 respectively from the University of York.

Before his days of vlogging and radio, Phil Lester wore a lot of hats: car washer, a veterinary clinic employee, and dog walker. He also worked at the British retailer WHSmith and was involved in the British comedy Faintheart as a guy named Tim.

When Phil was 19, he started his main Youtube channel AmazingPhil and posted his first vlog which he titled “Phil’s video blog”. The channel reached a milestone of 1 million subscribers in July 2013 and as of May 2018, has hit over 4.2 million subscribers and garnered over 550 million views.

Phil Lester workes a lot with Dan Howell, fellow Youtuber, and long-time friend and confident. In 2010, Phil and Lester were involved with UNICEF’s annual live internet broadcast charity fundraiser “Stickaid”. The duo also showed up on the web series Becoming YouTube with Benjamin Cook.

The two friends decided in 2014 to diversify and launch a gaming channel. They launched DanAndPhilGAMES in September 2014 – it hit 1 million subscribers in half a year, officially making it the then-fastest growing Youtube channel. A month later, they launched their April Fool’s based-channel DanAndPhilCRAFTS. Since then, they have released April Fool’s videos on the channel on April first every year, with the last upload coming on April 1, 2017.

In 2011, Phil and Dan collaborated with My Damn Channel to create a Youtube channel dedicated to the discussion and investigation of paranormal happenings. The channel which was named The Super Amazing Project was eventually taken over by two new anchors to allow Lester and Howell focus on their radio responsibilities with BBC Radio 1. Phil Lester and his friend officially became the anchors for BBC Radio 1’s Sunday night request show in January 2013. This arrangement ended on August 24, 2014, and the duo switched to Radio 1’s new Monday night show The Internet Takeover. This too ended in April 2016.

Phil Lester and Dan Howell have also written a book titled The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire which became a New York Times Bestseller in 2015. In the same year, they announced their Broadway-like show The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire. Starting in October 2015 and ending in late 2016, the production toured the UK, United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe.

They also recorded an original song which they performed on the tour. The song The Internet is Here which was released as a charity single for “Stand Up to Cancer” attained gold status for the number of sales it had garnered.

Continuing to leverage on the tour’s success they released it as a Youtube Red Original film, making them the first British Youtube creators to put up content on the Red platform.
