The American journalist was born on the 2nd of May in the year 1982 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to James Lee Harlow (her father, an attorney) and his late wife Mary Louise Baird. Poppy lost her mom when she was about 15.

She schooled at a private co-educational preparatory school named The Blake School, located in Minneapolis and graduated in 2001. Following her graduation, she then enrolled at Columbia University where she studied Political Science and Middle Eastern studies and graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 2005.

Poppy Harlow began her career interning at CBS while in college, she maintained her ties with the broadcast television network, working for CBS MarketWatch and rose to the position of an assistant producer for the programme CBS Newspath after her college graduation. Poppy then quit CBS for NY1 News’ Local Edition where she worked as an anchor and reporter, covering Staten Island and New Jersey. Her reports mostly bordered on local cultural events, politics, as well as the economy of the regions.
