Prince Amukamara’s Family and Siblings

On the 6th of June 1989, Prince was born into the family of Romanus and Christy Amukamara in Leominster, Massachusetts. The delighted parents named their new bundle of joy Prince Kelechi Amukamara.

The Amukamara’s are from Awo-Omamma town in Imo State, a predominantly Christian and Igbo speaking region in South Eastern Nigeria. The Igbo’s are known to be hard working with a knack for making the best of life no matter where they find themselves. The Amukamara’s are royalty as Kelechi’s grandfather was the paramount ruler of his town, his father is the current ruler and he is next in line to the throne.

Prince must have gotten his sports genes from his mother who was an athlete in her youth, she competed for the Nigerian Olympic team in the 1984 Summer Olympics in track and field event. His father, on the other hand, is a teacher. Also part of the family are his five siblings who are all girls. We obtained their names to be Princess, Promise, Peace, Precious, and Passionate.

His Education and Football Career

When Prince Amukamara was about 5 years old, his family relocated to New Jersey before moving again to Glendale, Arizona where he would later begin high school.

In Glendale, the young prince was enrolled at Apollo High School where he excelled greatly in sports; particularly track and field like his mother and of course America’s richest sports by – American football. Following his impressive performance in high school, he was named as the “Big School Player of the Year” in Arizona by The Arizona Republic, Rivals.com thought of him as a three-star recruit while Scout.com listed him in the Arizona All-State team.

With this, the lad was a top target for most colleges who extended scholarship offers to him. Amukamara committed to play for Nebraska Cornhuskers football team in the University of Nebraska in 2007. He majored in political science and later obtained a degree in sociology from the University in 2010.

He improved his football skills a lot here in each game of the three seasons. By his final year, an NFL scouting service rated the Prince 7.3 which was the highest for 1400 senior college students that were assessed in the country, just as NFLdraftscout.com listed him as the second-best cornerback prospect in the draft. Thus, Prince Amukamara the American born Nigerian was drafted in the first round (19th overall) by the New York Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Amukamara’s professional career has seen him play for the Giants beginning from 2011 after signing a four-year $8.18 million contract with 90% guaranteed till 2015 when his contract expired. Next, he took up with the Jacksonville Jaguars who offered him a one-year, $5.5 million contract inclusive of $3 million guaranteed with a signing bonus of $1.5 million. By March 10, 2017, the Super Bowl (XLVI) champion joined the Chicago Bears for a fully guaranteed one-year, $7 million contract inclusive of $3.5 million in signing bonus. His first season with the Bears proved promising following which they offered a three-year, $27 million extension which Amukamara signed on March 13, 2018.

Wife (Pilar Davis)

As a devout Catholic Christian, his life is worthy of emulation to many, though some might term his “religious discipline” to be extreme for a football star who as at his 24 years he hadn’t taken a strong drink before nor known the pleasure of a woman. Yes, it is true!

Prince Amukamara met his wife Pilar Davis in a Manhattan nightclub in 2011 when he went clubbing with his friends. At first, she brushed him off and he couldn’t score a touchdown. Nevertheless being in the company of his teammates off the pitch turned out to be the game changer as they made passes of encouragement to him with which he charged again towards her yet subtle in approach but serious with his intent. Before Pilar could cut him off again, Amukamara was well past her goal line and already making himself comfortable in her end zone (football field term) as they began exchanging emails.

Their platonic relationship was consummated after a trip to the altar in 2014. His then teammates described his improved style of play and “swagger” on the field to be as a result of “bedroom touchdowns” which we have no doubt he has been enjoying.

Prince and Pilar have two children currently. Their first child is Princess Paisley Amarachi Amukamara (girl) who plays the role of an elder sister to her little brother Princeton Amukamara.
