If for some reason Rachel Hurd-Wood looks very familiar but you can’t seem to place where you have seen her before, let me remind you. She is an English actress known for her role in the television series Clique as Rachel Maddox. She became popular because she is super talented and knows her chops when it comes to acting. Like the chameleon which adapts to its environment by taking its color, Hurd-Wood gives hue to her characters and has played a variety of roles since 2002 when she first debuted on the screen.

She wowed us with her debut role as Wendy Darling in the feature film Peter Pan for which she gained international stardom. She has since taken on other notable roles including as Sibyl Vane in Dorian Gray and Carrie McKenzie in the action flick Tomorrow, When The War Began.

Rachel Hurd-Wood Bio

Rachel Clare Hurd-Wood was born to parents of English and Irish descent, Philip and Sarah Hurd-Wood in the Streatham district of South London, England on the 17th day of August 1990. She has a younger brother named Patrick who is also an actor. At age 8, she moved with her family to a Victorian cottage in Godalming, Surrey but returned to London 10 years later to attend college. She pursued a degree in Linguistics at the University College London.

At Surrey, she attended Rodborough Technology College in Milford from 2001 to 2006. Hurd-wood joined a drama club in her school where she participated in a number of plays including a stage production in her second year. She then spent eight months between 2002 and 2003 in Australia while filming the live-action film Peter Pan during which she had tutored lessons.

Rachel Hurd-Wood later enrolled at Godalming College, Surrey in 2006 where she studied for her GCE Advanced Levels. Although she did a lot of acting growing up, she considered becoming a marine biologist for her love for dolphins but gave up the idea when she found out she needs to be very good in science. Then her interest shifted to working with children who have special needs or disabilities but she eventually decided to focus on her acting career after studying linguistics for a year. She left college to travel to Australia to film Tomorrow, When the War Began in 2010. The movie became the highest-grossing movie for that year in Australia.

Her career would go on from 2002 starting with Peter Pan to cover many years that would see her acting in movies and TV shows while modeling, appearing in music videos and doing a bit of charity too. Rachel Hurd-Wood also writes and has written for publications like The London Magazine. Among the works she has been a part of are Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006), Solomon Kane (2009), Dorian Grey (2009), Hideaways (2011), Highway to Dhampus (2014), and TV series Clique (2017-present) as Rachel Maddox, the slightly creepy, obsessive friend of Holly.

Rachel Hurd-Wood earned critical acclamations and was nominated for several awards for her debut role including the Saturn Award for the Best Young Actor and a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film – Leading Young Actress. Her subsequent performances also received similar recognition. For her role as a girl who is haunted and tormented by an unrelenting demon in An American Haunting, she was nominated for the 2006 Teen Choice Awards: Choice Movie Scream Award Movie along with positive reviews. Then in 2006, she earned another Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.

Family – Husband, Children

The Hurd-Wood family is well versed in the art of entertainment. After her grandparents saw a TV advert for a quintessential “English rose” who would play her eventual role in the story of the boy who refused to grow up, Peter Pan, she auditioned and impressed the casting agents outrightly.

Besides Rachel, her brother also acts and appeared with her in her debut film as one of the sleeping children in the I Do Believe In Fairies scene and also as her brother, Samuel in Solomon Kane where she plays Meredith Crowthorn. Her father is a scriptwriter, performer, as well as a voice-over artist for commercials. He was also featured as one of the guests in the Christmas party scene in another of her films, An American Haunting.

At one time, it was believed that the British actor and comedian  is her uncle but she refuted the claims in a 2009 interview. However, she has an uncle who is an artist and lives in Wales.

In 2018, she married Russ Bain, who is also an actor. They have a son, Liam born in May 2018.
