The actor’s journey to gaining millionaire status began after he dropped out of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1963. He did so in order to launch a career as an actor and model.

Roundtree’s first modeling job came after he was scouted by the founder and director of Ebony Fashion Fair, Eunice W. Johnson. After gaining fame from appearing in the fair, he moved to model products such as Salem Cigarettes and Duke Hair Grease.
