Richard “Ricky” Whittle was born in Oldham, England on the 31^st of December, 1981. He has two younger siblings. Ricky is of mixed race as his mother is white while his father is black from Jamaica.

Ricky Whittle attended Southampton Solent University where he studied Law. He began modeling to pay for the books he required for his studies. However, he dropped out just before graduation in order to pursue acting full time. In 2011, he relocated to the United States to better advance his career.

His parents are Maggie and Harry Whittle Thanks to his father’s job in the Royal Air Force, the family had to move to a new country every few years. As a result of this, Ricky primarily grew up in Northern Ireland. The young actor was bullied in school as a result of being the only black kid in his school. The bullying got so bad that he revealed to his Caucasian mother that he wanted to be white in order to fit in more with the other kids.
