The young determined actor was born Ronald Cyler II on the 21st day of March 1995 in Jacksonville, Florida as the youngest child to his parents. Cyler comes from a very humble background; his parents barely made enough to support him and his brothers and at some point, became homeless and had to live in a motel.

RJ Cyler had dreamed of becoming an entertainer since he was a kid and failing high school drama twice could not deter him from believing his dreams. His first foray into entertainment was beginning a dance crew with his older brother when he was 12 years old.

His acting career kicked off officially in 2013 when he had a part in the short film, Second Chances. Two years later was what it took before he hit it big with the titular role of Earl in the comedy-drama film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which is based on a Jesse Andrew book of the same title.
