RJ Cyler’s Bio (Age)
If you’re an academic-hating aspiring actor reading this, here’s good news for you – RJ Cyler failed high school drama not once but twice – but look at him now. The young determined actor was born Ronald Cyler II on the 21st day of March 1995 in Jacksonville, Florida as the youngest child to his parents. Cyler comes from a very humble background; his parents barely made enough to support him and his brothers and at some point, became homeless and had to live in a motel.
RJ Cyler had dreamed of becoming an entertainer since he was a kid and failing high school drama twice could not deter him from believing his dreams. His first foray into entertainment was beginning a dance crew with his older brother when he was 12 years old.
His acting career kicked off officially in 2013 when he had a part in the short film, Second Chances. Two years later was what it took before he hit it big with the titular role of Earl in the comedy-drama film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which is based on a Jesse Andrew book of the same title.
The film made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2015 and was a huge success giving RJ Cyler more visibility in the industry. Up next was a recurring role in the TV show; Vice Principals. He then turned heads with his portrayal of Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger in the 2017 reboot of the Power Rangers.
His first major small-screen gig came in I’m Dying Up Here which featured an ensemble cast. He had a recurring role in Black Lightning and a lead role in the MTV slasher series, Scream. His other films include War Machine, Everything, Everything, White Boy Rick – all released in 2017 and Netflix’s Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018).
RJ Cyler might have appeared on Forbes list but he is yet to book a spot on the highest-paid list. However, at his increasing pace, a spot on that list shouldn’t be too far off. Judging from his success so far, Cyler’s net worth is pegged at $300,000.
RJ Cyler’s parents have been very pivotal as far as his success in Hollywood is concerned. They have simply been his backbone supporting him even while the family endured difficult times. Upon the advice of RJ’s mentor, his parents sold all they had including his father’s truck and decided to relocate to Los Angeles to better Cyler’s chance at a successful career. It was a leap of faith that would prove to be pertinent in Cyler’s career.
The entire family can now look back with a lot to be thankful for. While they lived in Jacksonville, Cyler’s father Ronald Cyler, worked as a truck driver while his mother Katina has been working as a cook all her life. Though they barely appear in the limelight, Cyler’s rapid success means that things are a lot better for a family that was once at the brink of penury.
His mother is now a graduate of the culinary school, Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles.
RJ Cyler’s increasing popularity means increased interest in his personal life. While fans stay eager, there has been no news linking him romantically with anyone. He once jokingly referred to fellow Florida actress, Andrea K. Torres as his girlfriend on Twitter. We all await the time when Cyler would begin his Hollywood romances.
RJ Cyler is one tall lad. He stands at a height of 6 feet which is about 1.83 m. In Hollywood, a tall height is always a good feature and we all await those roles that would exploit this physical endowment of his.
