Nothing in this world can take the place of persisting talent, one that has endured through thick and thin and shines forth at the end of the tunnel. Such could be said about the rare talent of Brazillian footballer, Roberto Firmino who plays for Premier League club Liverpool and his national team as an attacking midfielder, forward or winger.
The exceptional footballer was born Roberto Firmino Barbosa de Oliveira on October 2, 1991, in Maceió, Brazil to Jose Roberto and Mariana Cicero. Although his family could be described as poor while he was growing up, and his neighborhood as having a tendency for crime, he was able to set his focus on breaking through the status quo through his natural aptitude.
When one is young and talented, it confers some kind of wings. He felt like he has wings to fly to any part of the world and he believed in himself despite the ugly circumstances surrounding him. He fell in love with the round leather game at the age of 6 and since then, has been inseparable from it. Roberto would always find a way to hook up with his love, football, even when his mother tried to keep a close watch on him and would usually stop him from going out.
However, in no time, he proved his talent on the field and had neighbors appreciating his skills, leaving them in awe whenever he appears. Only then did his folks allow him to go out freely and play in hopes that their son would somehow be their messiah and better their lives. The starlet joined Clube de Regatas Brasil’s (CRB) youth system at the age of thirteen from where he learned the necessary skills and tricks associated with professional football.
On one of his outings, while displaying his exceptional skills, he was spotted in 2008 by the man who would set him on the road to stardom. The man, a dentist, Marcellus Portella instantly recognized his genius and did all within his capacity, and maybe beyond, to ensure Roberto moved to Brazilian club Figueirense, even though he was thought crazy at first for believing the lad would go far in the world of football. From there, he rose through the ranks and braced himself to play top-flight football.
Roberto Firmino Career
Starting out with Figueirense, Roberto soon made his professional football debut with Toninho for the Serie B Championship on October 24, 2009. He played as a half-time substitute the first time but soon showed the stuff he was made of and was eventually promoted to the main squad.
From there, he earned his move to the German club Hoffenheim. Roberto signed a contract with the club in December 2010 which ran until 2015. During his time there, he was named the league’s Breakthrough Player.
Firmino always had a dream to be one of Brazil’s best footballer and today has not only seen him achieving that but also gaining worldwide prominence. His international debut for Brazil happened in November 2014 after which he played for the nation at the 2015 Copa América. He was named in Tite’s final 23 man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in May 2018.
He signed for the Premier League club, Liverpool on June 23, 2015. With the £29m contract, he became Liverpool’s second-most-expensive signing ever.
He started at a slow pace in the club, but with the arrival of manager, Jurgen Klopp, he improved and was voted Liverpool’s Player of the Month in January 2016. He also ended the season as Liverpool’s league top scorer with ten goals. He signed a new long-term contract with the club on 29 April 2018.
Roberto Firmino is so talented and skilled that he performs in every position. It even becomes hard to figure out what his position is. He can dribble, shoot, assists very good, as well as has a great heading ability. His humble mentality and fine attitude also distinguished him from other players. Roberto’s name was shortened to an affectionate nickname Bobby by Liverpool fans and players.
The star who would go window shopping as a boy and comforted himself with the thought that he would one day own the luxurious thing in life has today not only owns them, but changes them at will and even lets others share in his luxury. With a whopping net worth of $32 million and an annual salary of more than $5 million, he has surely broken the jinx of poverty and is indeed his family’s messiah.
Roberto Firmino Wife, Girlfriend
Beyond his goal scoring ability, the other aspect of his life that is equally interesting is his personal life, his family. He left his family when he was 16 to follow his dream, but he never forgot them one bit through the years. His parents and sister have had the opportunity and luxury to travel the world to watch their beloved one play and win trophies and medals.
Most of his body arts are inspired by his love for his family. One of them is the German transcription for Family, Unending Love.
