Roger Goodell’s Biography

Roger Stokoe Goodell was born on the 19th day of February 1959 in Jamestown, New York. He is the son of the former New York’s senator, Charles Ellsworth Goodell and his wife, Jean Goodell. Growing up, Roger spent his early years in Jamestown along with his parents and two other siblings – Michael and Tim Goodell. He completed his basic education from Bronxville High School, New York.

While at Bronxville High, Roger was active in sports; he featured in baseball as well as basketball and football. His undeniable passion for sports earned him the Athlete of the Year award in his senior year. Soon after his graduation from Bronxville, Roger went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Washington & Jefferson College in 1981. Due to recurring injuries, Roger didn’t participate in sports during his college days. He rather focused on his education, hence, graduating with honors.

Professional Career

At the early stages of his career, Roger Goodell served as an intern at the NFL in 1982. He worked in the NFL office situated in New York as well as New York Jets before returning to the administrative office in 1984. Goodell’s outstanding performances and top-notch work ethic earned him a promotion three years later. He was elevated to the post of the assistant to the president of the American Football Conference (AFC). The position he served under Paul Tagliabue until 1990. After that, he was made the director of international development and club administration.

His impressive records kept him rising on the ladder until he earned his breakthrough in 2001. He was appointed as the League’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in December 2001. During his time as the Vice President, Roger chaired several NFL business units including strategic planning and stadium development, as well as media, sales, and marketing unit.

Notably, Roger Goodell played a prominent role during the negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement between NFLPA and NFL stakeholders in 2011. He also championed the NFL Network while securing new TV agreements. Following Paul Tagliabue’s retirement as NFL Commissioner in 2006, Roger Goodell became one of the three candidates that were selected for his possible replacement. Goodell went on to defeat Gregg Levy via two-thirds majority; thus becoming the commissioner of the National Football League.

Towards the ending of 2017, Goodell penned another five-year contract extension deal that will keep him in that position from 2019 to 2023.

The TV star is the daughter of Sam Skinner who is the former White House Chief of Staff during President ’s administration.

Jane was born on 12th February 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Northwestern University. Prior to her stint with Fox News Channel, Jane has previously worked as a reporter with popular networks including Minnesota-based KBJR and WNBC-TV in New York, among others.
