Background Details

Felix Clary Weatherall was born in Brightlingsea in Essex; it is an area that is close to the more popular Colchester. His exact date of birth is not known but he was born circa 1993 and 1994, most of his childhood was spent in the area as well.

Not a lot is known of his childhood or immediate family, but it is believed that Weatherall was born into a musically inclined family, with a father who designed the electronic sound systems that are used for live shows and also worked as a DJ who specialized in playing high energy music from the 80s also known as Hi-NRG, as well as Italo Disco.

Growing up around a father who was heavily involved in making music was a huge influence on Weatherall’s career and by 2015, he had his debut single.

Just like information about his family, very little is known of his educational background.

Origin Of The Name – Ross From Friends

The moniker Ross From Friends is something that has intrigued fans and like an urban myth, every time he is asked the reason why he chooses to call himself Ross From Friends, he comes up with a different story. One of the stories involves Top Trump cards of characters from the sitcom Friends. Another one involves the forced watching of the show because of a stuck DVD in a player. Whatever version of the story is true, the name has stuck.

On the 1st of April in 2018, the magazine Mixmag released a prank article that stated a lawsuit from David Schwimmer, the actor who played Ross on Friends who was supposedly having issues with Weatherall.

Ross From Friends’ Music Career

His music career started officially in 2015, with the release of Talk to Me You’ll Understand. Prior to this release, he had worked with some bands and had some solo projects but his big break and announcement to the world came from the aforementioned song.

Talk to Me You’ll Understand took him more than six months to write and compose, however, all the time he spent making this song paid off as he has garnered over four million views on YouTube. This was a great feat for an underground artist on his debut track. For the song, he drew inspiration from a number of sources, and he has described the process of making it as one that took a lot of raw emotion from him.

However, after the success he enjoyed with the song which he worked so hard on, he moved on to more projects. One of these projects was Alex Brown which he released in line with his own record label called Breaker Breaker.

Things were beginning to look up for him and as he advanced as a musician, he decided to spend more time doing live shows. The live performances involved a deconstruction of his music and stripping away the electrical elements of the songs while replacing them with more organic music instruments, this he was able to achieve with two of his friends.

He called the shows a three-man show and it was an idea that he had been toying with for a long time. The process of deconstructing took a total of four months but in the end, it came out the way he wanted.

Ross From Friends is currently signed to the label Brainfeeder which is owned by the American DJ Steven Ellison who is commonly known by his moniker Flying Lotus. His signing to the label happened with Flying Lotus “sliding into his DMs” and offering him a position on the label.

An important fact about the musician is that he hates to be described as a Lo-Fi artist because it denotes poor production of music and although this is a genre that has a large fan base, Ross From Friends would rather be referred to as the electronic music producer that he is. Weatherall has one album he has released with the Brainfeeder.
