Royce D. Freeman was born in the Imperial City of California on February 24, 1996. He is one of the two sons born to Roy and Sheila Freeman, he grew up along with his brother Robert Freeman. He belongs to an African-American ethnicity and holds an American nationality. Freeman developed a keen interest in playing football from a very young age; he attended Imperial High School situated in Imperial County, California.

Career Stats

During high school, Freeman played the running back position for the Imperial Tigers. In his freshman year, he recorded 225 yards with 26 carries and one touchdown. The following year, he ran for 2,075 yards with 162 carries and 35 touchdowns. He broke the Tiger’s record, leading in career points, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns. He was named a five-star recruit by Scout.com and ranked eighth-best running back in the nation in 2014.

Upon graduation, Freeman enrolled at Oregon University where he continued his collegiate career in 2014. He was the highest rated player of his class and competed for the starting shirt with Thomas Tyner and Byron Marshall, eventually, all the three of them were named co-starters for the running back position in the Oregon team. With his weight advantage, Freeman established himself as a power back, thus leading the Ducks to clinch victory at the Rose Bowl. He finished his rookie season with 18 touchdowns, 252 carries with 1365 rushing yards. At the end of the season, Freeman won the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year Award and was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference 2nd team.

In his sophomore season, he doubled his efforts, earning first team All-Pac-12 honors. He finished the season with a record of 17 points, 1,836 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 26 receptions with 348 receiving yards. During the 2016 season, Freeman struggled throughout the season failing to record 1,000 yards, but rather reached 945 yards with 9 points. He had a knee injury which affected his performance that season. During the 2017 season, Freeman featured in 12 games recording 16 touchdowns with 1,475 rushing yards. After a successful season, he was listed among the players eligible for the 2018 NFL draft.
