Measuring success is something that can be easily done, especially in the world of music which can transcend geographical boundaries and sometimes even continents. Rufus du Sol is one of those bands whose music has successfully gone beyond borders. Though they are originally an Australian band, their music is appreciated on a global scale. This is important for them as most of the world listens to music that is predominantly from America or the United Kingdom. The fact that Rufus du Sol is able to garner a huge number of fans from all over the world is a testament to just how talented they are.
Rufus Du Sol – Bio
The band’s origins can be traced to a rainy day in 2010 when the three members, Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist, and James Hunt were on vacation at the beachside town Byron Bay and decided to write a song. Realizing how great they sounded together, they chose to reel out two EPs. The first of the two was released on the 1st of January in 2011.
The EP experienced mild success, with two of the songs getting on the Hype Machine charts and peaking at number 8 and 13. These two songs are Paris Collides and We Left. Just from this EP, they were nominated for an award from the Vimeo awards in the category of best music video for the song We Left. Their next body of work was released the following year to equal levels of success.
Everything To Know About The Band
After their first EP of 2011, the band released their first full-length album, Atlas on 9 August 2013. In less than three weeks after its release date, the album was already topping the Australian Albums Chart. This was followed by a second album titled Bloom in 2016 and a third Solace two years after Bloom on the 19th of October 2018. The first reached number one on the albums charts while the second peaked at number two.
As a band, Rufus Du Sol has been nominated for more than ten awards and of this number, they have won four. The first award they won was for their Album Atlas and it was in the category of Best Independent Dance Electronica Album from the AIR Awards. In 2015, they took home the award for Best Dance Release for the song You Were Right and it was from the ARIA Music Awards. Two years later in 2017, they won Record of year for the single Innerbloom from the Electronic Music awards.
Electronic music that is performed live is rarely ever able to sound as great as the original recording but Rufus du Sol has found a way to infuse elements of live music in their recordings; this has helped in the reproduction of these songs live. The ability to do this earned them the award of Live Act of the Year award in 2017 an award that was given by the Electronic Music Awards.
Composition of the Band
The band is made up of three men and has had the same members since its inception in 2010 till date. They are Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist, and James Hunt. George plays the Keyboard, Tyrone is on the guitar and also doubles as the lead vocalist, and that leaves James playing the drums.
In 2016, the band had to move to Los Angeles as their career required them to move to the United States of America and this was when they made the transition from the name RUFUS to Rufus du Sol. This change had to occur because the name Rufus was already trademarked in the US.
The band members were able to convey their displeasure at the decision in a Facebook release announcing the name change. Their move to the US necessitated and influenced their decision to collaborate with other musicians. The idea was foreign to them because they worked beautifully as a group and felt that adding a fourth person might tip the balance.
However, they were able to work with Jason Evigan; he worked on some tracks on the Solace album. Among their many success in the US, the band has had the opportunity to grace the stage at Coachella a number of times.
