Sally Hawkins has been active in the movie industry since 2002. That was the year we all welcomed the English actress into the movie world as Samantha in Mike Leigh’s drama film – All or Nothing. She has been on top of her game thenceforth with only a few flaws here and there.

True, Sally’s acting career has been flourishing and blooming from the day she introduced herself to the world as an actress. Nevertheless, she stormed the industry in 2017 cementing her deep-rooted foundation in the profession with the release of the Aisling Walsh-directed biographical film – Maudie and The Shape of Water, a fantasy drama film. History quickly recorded this feat as the first time Sally Hawkins played the major role in two productions that were super-successful.

If Hawkins was admired for being the popular Canadian folk artist, Maud Lewis in Maudie, she was venerated for portraying Elisa Esposito in The Shape of Water. Also, it has aggregated over $95.2 million worldwide while the former has  gathering $1 million at the Canadian box office since May 2017, winning several awards.

Sally is so much in love with her acting career to such extent she doesn’t believe she’d survive in other fields. She believes her set of skills are limited and that she’d be useless in most of the endeavours that have nothing to do with acting. As such, she’s hoping to remain an actress for a long time, as long as she is still considered relevant in the industry.

Of course, the Englis actress is happy and is not looking towards making a career switch, things are working out fine for her in the industry. Nevertheless, she is pissed about the disregard the movie industry has for women which to her, is made manifest in the fact that actresses are paid less than men. The lady once expressed that she was dismayed to discover women are also undermined in the movie industry like in other professions.

Although the Englis actress was born on the 27th day of April 1976 in Dulwich, South London, she grew up in Blackheath. It is known that her parents, Colin and Jacqui Hawkins are authors and illustrators of children’s book. The couple according to reports has authored over 150 children’s book.

To the best of our knowledge, Sally has only one sibling, a brother – Finbar Hawkins. We learnt that Finbar is currently a Creative Lead at the Digital department of Aardman Animations, a production company that produces films, advertising and several kinds of digital entertainment.

It was apparent that Sally has a strong liking for acting when she was still a baby. Her parents would agree that her attachment to films when she was only three years old, was unusual. As such, it wasn’t a surprising thing that she became a student of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London when she was done with James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich. 

Sally kicked off her career as a stage actress, she took part in several notable productions, appeared on a handful of television series and subsequently branched out to the large screen.

If the proof of the pudding is truly in the eating, then Sally Hawkins has shown the world that she is one of the finest actresses of this generation with the numerous nominations for honourable awards and the many prestigious accolades she has so far earned from her acting endeavours.

Frankly, listing all the awards and nominations she has received would almost be tantamount to counting stars. But here’s what you should know – a major bulk of Sally’s awards and nominations came from her role as Poppy Cross in 2008’s Happy-Go-Lucky, Rita O’Grady in 2010’s Made in Dagenham, Ginger in 2013’s Blue Jasmine and of course, Maud Lewis in 2016’s Maudie and Elisa Esposito in 2017’s The Shape of Water.

While the actress in 2017, received the London Film Critic’s Circle Award for British Actress of the Year as a recognition for her Mary Brown role in Paddington 2, the major highlight for her was the approvals she got for playing Elisa Esposito. Sally got not fewer than 15 nominations for the role including the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and the BAFTA award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Meanwhile, she bagged about 10 other awards for the role.

This is also the case for her Ginger role in Blue Jasmine which earned her the Empire Award for Best Supporting Actress and also got her decorated with about 16 different nominations. Being Poppy Cross won for Sally over 15 different awards and equally handed her about 8 different nominations for other accolades. For portraying Maud Lewis, the actress was nominated for the Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. More to that, she grabbed the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for British Actress of the Year. Also, she got the National Society of Film Critics and San Diego Film Critics Society Awards, both for Best Actress.

There are other awards and nominations which Sally Hawkins could brag about that are not named above, including her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Blue Jasmine. You should know that this actress has been in about 9 films, including two short films nominated for Oscar.

Her Partner, Who’s Sally Hawkins’ Husband?

Considering Sally’s age, people often assume that she is married and with kids. This is not true for as far as we can tell, Sally has never been married. Also, she has not been romantically linked to any partner. Her love and passion burns for her career alone.

Nevertheless, the actress is open to getting married someday and raising kids. In fact, it that she and her bosom friend,  once agreed that they would make babies and become life partners if they are still both single at the age of 35.
