Salvador Perez is a baseballer playing for the Kansas City Royals as a catcher. Perez has been with the Royals since 2007 from the minor leagues. Bio, Age

Salvador was born in Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela on the 10th of May 1990 as Salvador Johan Pérez Diaz. He was single handily raised by his mother Yilda Diaz after his father left home when he was just four years and never came back. When Perez was eight years old, he and his mother moved in with his maternal grandmother, Carmen de Diaz.

To support herself, her son and mother, Yilda made and sold cakes, flan, and lasagna; and to keep her son busy she enrolled Salvador in a baseball school in Valencia since he has been showing an ability to catch, throw and hit balls since the age of six. His skills were developed at the school and by the age of fourteen, he made up his mind to play baseball professionally as a catcher. Growing up, he played with and against current MLB player and fellow countryman .

Career

At the age of sixteen, he was signed by the Kansas City Royals for $65, 000. The following season (2007) he kicked off his minor league career with the Arizona Rookie League. In August 2011, Salvador Perez was promoted to the major league and in his first game as an MLB player, he recorded his first hit, picked off 2 baserunners and caught 5 popups – which remained two uncommon occurrences for the team that season.

In that same month (August) Perez recorded his first home run against , in that game, he was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle. At the end of his rookie season, he played a total of thirty-nine games and recorded .331 with 3 HRs and twenty-one runs driven in.

In 2012, he signed a 5-year contract extension with the team worth $7 million. Despite suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee at a spring training game, Perez still played seventy-nine games that year and ended the season with .301 hits, eleven homers, and 39 RBIs. The following year, he played one hundred and thirty-eight games recording an average .292, thirteen home runs, and 79 RBI.

After a very impressive 2014 season where he recorded more starts than any other catcher in the league, Perez was named to the 2015 All-Star Game, which was his 3rd All-Star appearance. In that same season, he batted .364 in the 2015 World Series, helping the Royals win five games, and would later emerge, winners of the 2015 World Series. Salvador Perez was unanimously named the World Series Most Valuable Player that season, making him the first catcher to take home the award since 1992 and the 2nd player of Venezuelan descent to be named an MVP. In that same year, he won the Gold Glove Award for the third time in a row.

The following year (2016), Perez signed another contract extension with the franchise, which will keep him with the team till 2021. In 2016, he won his fifth All-Star Game title as a starting catcher for the American League and his 4th Gold Glove Award.
