He was brought up in his hometown of Cedartown, Georgia alongside his two siblings Ben Hunt and Van Hunt.

He had his high school education at Cedar town College before he proceeded to Middle Tennessee State University. He only spent a couple of years at Tennessee before joining the University of Alabama, Birmingham where he completed his university education in 2007.

Sam Hunt’s career as a singer was not his initial plan; right from high school, he was a sports standout, excelling in football where he played as a quarterback. It was during his years at the University of Alabama that he started experimenting with the guitar and teaching himself how to sing.
