Saquon Barkley was born on February 7, 1997, in the Bronx, New York. His family later relocated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where he was raised. He schooled at Pennsylvania’s Whitehall High School and lettered in basketball, track, and football.

Between his sophomore and senior high school year, Barkley recorded 3,646 rushing yards with 63 touchdowns. His senior year record of 1,856 yards, 8.6 yards per carrying, and 31 touchdowns earned him a 4-star rating as he was also ranked as the best running back prospect in Pennsylvania.

The talented youngster initially made a commitment to Rutgers University, however, he switched to Pennsylvania State University in February 2014.

In his freshman season with the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, Saquon Barkley featured in 11 games including six starts during which he had 182 carries for 1,076 yards and 7 touchdowns. He set the single-season freshman rushing record (1,076 yards) for Penn State, a performance which earned him a second-team All-Big Ten selection as well as True Freshman All-America honors.

Barkley got more playing time in his sophomore season as he started all 14 games. He became the first Penn State player in 14 years to record multiple/consecutive games with 200-plus all-purpose yards. This chap finished the season as the leading Big Ten player in terms of total touchdowns (22), rushing touchdowns (18), as well as total points (132). Just like his freshman season, he also set a new school record for most rushing yards in a season by a sophomore (1,496).

In his junior (2017) season, Saquon Barkley ran for 1,271 yards with 18 rushing touchdowns and also garnered 632 receiving yards with 3 touchdown receptions. He also had 36 passing yards with 1 passing touchdown and 423 kickoff return yards with 2 touchdowns. His outstanding performance earned him the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile college football player, a 4th-place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting, as well as a consensus All-American designation. The parents of the NFL star are Tonya Johnson and Alibay Barkley. The sports talents which Saquon Barkley is endowed with can be traced to his father’s side of the family. His father was an amateur boxer in his heyday and his great-uncle Iran Barkley is a former boxing champion.

Saquon Barkley was raised alongside 4 siblings, 2 brothers (Ali Barkley & Rashard Johnson) and 2 sisters (Shaquona & Aliyah Barkley). He also has an increasing number of nieces and nephews.

Saquon Barkley is in a relationship with Anna Congdon. The two are said to have started their relationship in January 2017 when Congdon was a sophomore at Pennsylvania State University.

The couple welcomed their first child on April 24, 2018, a daughter named Jada Clare Barkley. Their bundle of joy arrived just 2 days before Barkley was picked 2nd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, talk about perfect timing!
