Her father Paul Bareilles was into the insurance business while her mother, Bonnie Bareilles, worked in funeral homes. Sara is the last child of her parents and her other siblings include; Stacey, Jennifer, and Melody. It is also known that her family lineage is a mixture of Portuguese, French, Italian, German and English.
During her formative years, the singer was known to be a plus-sized kid. She was often taunted for her appearance in school which made her become very apprehensive about her looks. However, it did not deter her from taking up roles in school plays and she was a member of the school’s choir, Limited Edition. One of her notable live performances includes Brave Enough: Live at the Variety Playhouse which was held in Atlanta.
