Scoey Mitchell – Biography
Scoey Mitchell came into the world on the 12th of March 1930 under the star sign of Pisces, his place of birth which is Newburgh, New York, United States points to his American nationality and his ethnicity is African-American. Relevant information on his early life, parents, and siblings are not public notice but it is known that Scoey grew up as the son of a minister.
There is equally no information on his educational qualifications, including the institutions he attended but it is believed that he attained a reasonable level in his academics for him to achieve his present level of success.
The records have it that he played professional baseball in the past before deciding to settle for a career in acting. His debut as an actor was accomplished on the set of 1967 The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. He was depicted as himself in What’s It All About in 1969.
As his career progressed, Scoey Mitchell guest starred in several TV series like Here Come the Brides, The Mothers-in-Law and The Odd Couple. He was also a guest on the set of That Girl, as well as The Six Million Dollar Man. Barefoot in the Park, a sitcom which was taken from Neil Simon’s Broadway play of similar name cast him in a role in September 1970. The ABC sitcom was the first American-based TV sitcom since Amos ‘n’ Andy to sport a predominantly black cast with Vito Scotti picking up the role of the only main white character.
The series, however, developed a major behind the scene strife during a few of its first episodes which sealed its fate. Scoey Mitchell was disengaged due to some difference in opinion that arose between him and the producers but instead of getting a replacement for him, ABC made the decision to cancel the series in December 1970 due to their disenchantment with its low ratings. 1986 saw Scoey as part of the cast of a semi-autobiographical movie about Richard Pryor titled Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling. He did not entirely leave acting after this role because 2017 saw him back on the screen in A Kindred Soul.
