On the 11th day of October 1965 in the city of Lake Charles in Louisiana, San Patrick Flanery was born to Paul Flanery and his dear wife Genie (née LeDoux). Flanery was raised in Houston, Texas. While his father was a medical equipment salesman, his mother worked as a real estate agent. His heritage has been traced to English, Irish and the Cajun French people.

Sean Patrick Flanery went to school at Awty International School and Dulles High School, Sugar Land, Fort Bend County, Texas. Flanery never had a thing for acting until his college days at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
