Seeing Sendhil Ramamurthy on NBC’s sci-fi series “Heroes”, no one would ever guess that he did not start out as an actor. All he ever wanted when he was growing up was to wear the shoes of his parents both of whom were doctors. However, he later found out that the screen was what he loved instead of being around sick people. And so better late than never, he started his acting career in the year 2000. Close to two decades later, he has fairly established himself with a number of film roles and many more TV appearances.

The actor was born Sendhil Amithab Ramamurthy on May 17, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois, USA, to his father Somayaji and his mother Rajam, both of whom were from Bangalore. He was raised alongside his sister, Sujatha, in San Antonio, speaking English and a little bit of Kannada with his immediate family. Although he had always loved movies since he was a child, Ramamurthy had never seriously considered becoming an actor. Instead, he wanted to become a physician as that was the profession he grew up close to with both his parents as doctors. His sister is also a physician.

He got his education from Keystone School from where he graduated in 1991. Later, he proceeded to Tufts University where he was a pre-med student. Because he needed to take an art course, he signed up for an acting class in his graduation year, believing it would be easy. He got his first acting role in a college production of “Our Country’s Good,” by Timberlake Wertenbaker. Two more plays after that and he was bought over to acting.

When he came out to tell his parents that instead of becoming a medical doctor he wanted becoming an actor, it hit them in a bad way because they did not see it coming. Nonetheless, they later came to accept it and were very supportive. In fact, they paid his fees when he went to Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, in London.

Sendhil Ramamurthy began in the theatre with productions such as A Servant of Two Masters, Indian Ink, and East Is East at West End theatre, Soho Repertory Theatre, and the Manhattan Theatre Club respectively. His first on-screen role came with an appearance in 2000 film, In the Beginning, followed by a TV appearance in Guiding Light (2002). One of his biggest roles came in 2006 when he got to play Mohinder Suresh in Heroes. He continued with the role until 2010.

Since he chose the screen, the actor has appeared in over 20 movies and TV shows. More so, he has also made appearances in various theatre productions. Beyond being just an actor, he is also the executive producer of Brahmin Bulls in 2013 which he also acted in.

Sendhil Ramamurthy is happily married to wife Olga Sosnovska, a Polish actress in 1999. Olga was born in Wieluń, Poland on May 21st, 1972. Although she was born in Poland, her family immigrated to England where she began her acting career. She is best known for her role in the US as Polish businesswoman Lena Kundera on the soap opera All My Children.

Olga became famous in Britain for her role as Fiona Carter in the popular television series “Spooks”, though she left mid-way through the season due to her first pregnancy in 2005. She has also featured in 2007 Oceans Thirteen as “Debbie.” The Couple is blessed with two kids, Halina Ramamurthy born in 2005 and Alex Ramamurthy in 2008.

Sendhil is a good-looking man whose name appeared on People magazine’s list of 100 most beautiful people in 2007. With nice dark looks, the Indian-American is not necessarily the tallest man around, but he still has a good height standing at 5 feet 10 inches tall.
