He was born on July 14, 1991, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to his Puerto Rican mother Carmen Velásquez. Growing up in Boston’s Mission Hill projects, Shabazz was inclined to basketball and would start at a very young age to play. He attended Charlestown High School in Massachusetts as well as Lawrence Academy, Groton, Massachusetts. Napier made sure to make a name for himself while at Lawrence as he made impressive records at the school.
