Sheamus O’Shaunessy’s birth name is Stephen Farrelly and he was born January 28, 1978. He is an Irish wrestler who was born in Cabra, Dublin, Ireland. The name of his mother is not known but his father’s name is Martin Farrelly. Not much is known about his childhood, however, he attended Scoil Caoimhin Primary and Coláiste Mhuire Secondary School. Looking at his outlook now, it may be difficult to believe Sheamus ever sang, not to speak of singing in a choir, but yes, he did and he did so with the Palestrina Choir when he was in high school. He also made an appearance on the Late Late Show and Live at Three.
The WWE star played Gaelic football, a type of Irish football played by teams made up of fifteen players on each side. He played for the Erin’s Isle team and was once named Sports Star of the Month. While attending college at the National College of Ireland, Sheamus continued to satisfy his thirst for sports as he played rugby with the college team. He also obtained a National Diploma from the college.
The former IT technician got a chance to try wrestling at the time he was working as a security guard at a nightclub. He would also double that with a parttime job as a bodyguard for English actress, Denise van Outen and also for musicians, Bono and Larry Mullen Jr., both of the U2 fame. He was advised at that time by Bret Hart to join the Larry Sharpe’s Monster Factory wrestling school as Bret thought he would do well as a wrestler – and he wasn’t wrong. Sheamus grew up watching both American and British wrestling on TV and that was how he initially loved wrestling as a sport. He started with the Irish Whip Wrestling (IWW) where he soon became a two-time Irish Whip International Wrestling Heavyweight Champion before he found a path to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). His leaving the IWW was down to a serious injury he had while training. His journey with the WWE began in 2009 and it has seen him defeat to claim the WWE Championship, making him the first Irish man to win the title in 2010. Sheamus (which he changed his ring name to in 2010 from Sheamus O’Shaunessy) has fought in tag-team matches with Victor Ceron, Hade Vansen, and Jake Hager.
He claimed the World Heavyweight Championship title from Daniel Bryan after he defeated him in 2011 and he defended his title and held onto it for a period of seven months before conceding it to . His 7-month reign as World Heavyweight Champion is the third longest reign in the history of the title. In his WWE career, the modern-day Irish warrior has won where and when it mattered the most.
