Sindarius Thornwell Bio

Sindarius was born in South Carolina, on November 23, 1994. He grew up in Lancaster, a small town in South Carolina located about 40 miles South of Charlotte, with a population of about 10,000 people.

His athleticism has been traced to his high school days. Records have it that he was initially a student of Lancaster High School where he spent three years before he moved to Oak Hill Academy where he completed his high school education. It is said that Sindarius Thornwell was at first a quarterback until his ninth grade when he gave up on American football, believing it holds no future for him.

Playing for the Oak Hill Academy basketball team as a senior, Sindarius was able to pull off an average of 3.6 assists, 8.6 rebounds, and 26.8 points per game. He led his team to a 33-5 record and it was only natural several platforms rated him as a top prospect.

Even though they were several colleges trying to recruit him after high school, he decided to commit to the University of South Carolina (he did this to be near his Family) and immediately became a top NBA prospect after a successful freshman season which saw him named to the 2014 SEC All-Freshman team.

He further proved himself by displaying an impressive scoring propensity and extraordinary defensive maneuver. Thornwell earned the All-SEC First Team honor along with being named SEC Player of The Year during his senior year with the team. In view of the things he accomplished with the South Carolina Gamecocks, there was no doubt that he would fare well in the NBA.

Sindarius Thornwell declared for the 2017 NBA draft and was drafted in the second round, as the 48th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks. However, his draft rights were traded to the Los Angeles Clippers who had been scouting for him. He eventually inked a deal with LA Clippers and has been blazing for the team as a guard.

Height, Weight, and Body Measurements

Measuring a little under 6’5″ with a remarkable 6’10 wingspan and 215 lb body weight, Thornwell has the adaptability needed to thrive in multiple positions. In terms of having the right body features for the sport, Sindarius Thornwell hasn’t been found wanting in any respect.

In fact, it is believed that he is among the players with the best stature for the guard position. Meanwhile, his flexibility and strength avail him the opportunity to put up a strong defense and as well thrive as a good scorer. This is why many refer to him as the “scoring defensive guard”.

His Family

Sindarius is not the only one in his family gifted with a very unique name. From what we have learned, the name means “uncommon”, “memorable”, or “spectacular”. Anyway, he has a younger brother called Quantavious (Tay for short) and an older sister named Quasheka.

It is no secret that his family has been a huge support and the driving force behind the successes that Sindarius has thus far enjoyed as a basketballer. Several reports have related that his brother Tay has a coach-like knowledge of the game. It is claimed that beyond being a source of support for Sindarius, he helped him to improve his game during his high school basketball days.

Another family member that helped to shape the NBA star’s career was his uncle Dajuan Thornwell. Sadly, the man died in September 2015 at the age of 42. We gathered that Dajuan persuaded Sindarius to move to the prestigious Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and also convinced him to commit to South Carolina despite advances from Florida, Ohio State, and Syracuse.

Among other factors considered, the basketballer settled for South Carolina because he wanted to be where he was well known and loved; he wanted his family to be able to watch his games. It wouldn’t be wrong for one to assert that his family means everything to him. They have always been around him and were with him when it was announced that he has been drafted into the NBA.
