Perhaps for a long time to come, the name Siohvaughn Funches will still be heavily associated with former American professional basketball star but with a nasty divorce story keeping them at bay from each other. The duo began their lives as couples when they can be said to have had nothing, but in the course of time and as things got better, their marriage gradually deteriorated to the extent of their getting divorced.

Siohvaughn Funches was born under the Virgo zodiac sign on the 6th of September in the year 1981. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the U.S.A. into an African American family headed by Frank Funches (father) and his wife Darlene Funches (mother). Siohvaughn didn’t have the best of childhood as the very people who brought her into the world separated when she was just about 3 years old. Then as if that wasn’t enough family trouble to deal with for a lifetime, her only known biological sister named Garricae LeAnna Woods died when she was just a teen.

Though life dealt a heavy blow on her from a tender age, she did not sit back in despair as she was still able to live life as normal as it could be for her. Siohvaughm got schooled at Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois and it was there that she first met Wade. After high school, she proceeded to the University of Phoenix where she studied Psychology and later graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 in 2009. Siohvaughn Funches proceeded to earn her Professional Counselling Certificate from Capella University in 2010 before she enrolled at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta to further her studies.

While in the law school, she won several awards like Team Best Oralist, Dean’s List Award, Law Journal Moot Court Champion, Cali Excellence for the Future Award, Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears Pro Bono Award Excellence in Pro Bono Service Award, and the Pro Bono Distinction Award. She studied at John Marshall Law School from 2014 through 2017 after which she bagged her Doctor of Law – JD, Law Magna Cum Laude.

Following Siohvaughn Funches’ graduation, the legal luminary began working with The Mediation Matters Firm, LLC in the capacity of a Parenting Coordinator, Certified Mediator and Arbitrator in 2016. Marriage And Divorce 

As earlier hinted, Siohvaughn Funches met Dwyane Wade while they were in high school and almost instantly, the two began dating. At the time, Dwanye was living with Siohvaughn’s mother in order to escape the troubles that faced him back home.

The duo continued their relationship even when they enrolled at different colleges. They got married in 2002 and shortly before that time, their first son, Zaire Blessing Dwyane Wade was born on the 4th of February 2002. The family lived in a cramped apartment at the time but the love they had for each other made their present challenges seem like nothing.

Wade entered the 2003 NFL Draft and got selected by the Miami Heat as the 5th overall in the years’ draft. He began to rise in his basketball career and of course, the couple began to live a life of luxury. However, while everything seemed good on the outside, little did we know that tragedy was already waiting to strike their marriage.

Soon after the birth of their second son named Zion Malachi Airamis Wade on May 29, 2007, Dwayne Wade filed for divorce from Siohvaughn Funches. The divorce processes got nasty and lingered on till 2010 when the court finally granted Wade’s prayers.

Trouble was however not yet over for Siohvaughn. Who takes custody of their kids was yet to be determined and this resulted in another nasty court battle. In the end, Dwayne won while Funches was granted what the court called a “regular parenting time” with her kids.

Siohvaughn Funches is gradually moving on with her life though recent reports have it that she still files lawsuits against her divorce. Well, what would you expect of a lawyer? She continues to come around and see her kids with Wade paying for her trips. Outside of her divorce story, Funches works as a professional domestic violence counselor and also a public speaker.

She wrote the book The True Story For God’s Glory (2016) to counter Wade’s book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball (2012). She also released a second book titled You Gotta Let God Finish! in 2018 and is believed to be working on her third book.

Siohvaughn Funches’ son Zion Wades came out as gay and his parents have not relented in providing their utmost support for the kid.
