Meet the millionaire singer whose transformation into the world of glitz and glam was outrightly dramatic. Susan Boyle is one of the world’s hidden singing talents discovered during Britain’s Got Talent hunt show. Today, she has become a one of a kind down to earth diva.
Susan Boyle Bio
The Scottish singer was born as Susan Magdalane Boyle on April 1, 1961, to a World War II veteran dad and Bridget, a mother who worked as a shorthand typist. Susan clearly got the singing talent from her dad, Patrick Boyle a miner who was known as a singer in their local community. Susan is the last child of the family. She has four older brothers and four older sisters.
Susan Boyle was born and raised in Blackburn, West Lothian in Scotland. The young girl from a devout Christian home attended Edinburgh Acting School. While at it, she took singing classes from Fred O’Neil and also participated in some government training programmes. Like her father, she performed in local venues and during her pilgrimage to the Knock Shrine, County Mayo, Ireland, Susan had the opportunity to perform at the Marian basilica.
Susan has been singing for as long as she can remember. According to her, she had always wanted to be as successful as Elaine Paige. After winning several local singing competitions, she was urged by her family and friends to take her skills to another level. Susan took the dare and auditioned for X Factor and later on for Britain’s Got Talent where she eventually landed her big break. Beyond the expectations of the judges, the over 40-year woman who cared little or nothing for her outer appearance wowed the audience and all who heard her sing and perform the I Dreamed a Dream song from Les Misérables.
An initially jeering crowd rose to their feet in awe, giving the potential star a standing ovation. Judge Simon Cowell who is usually hard to please was utterly stunned and smiled all through the audition. Susan kept up the winning trend at the ITV competition and automatically became Britain’s favourite. However, she emerged 2nd at the end of the show. Following her win, Susan has produced 7 studio albums, selling over 25 million records all over the world. She has performed for dignitaries such as the Pope Francis, and the Queen of England.
Susan Boyle says she owes her life to her mother’s Catholic faith. Before her birth, doctors advised her mother to have her aborted for supposedly “being starved of oxygen” and suffering a brain damage. After being misdiagnosed as a child, Susan was properly found to be suffering from the Asperger syndrome. Susan who was bullied as a child has equally battled with similar experience in her adult life as a celebrity. However, with encouragements from family, friends and faithful fans, she is consistently taking steps to improve her confidence. On a larger scale, she has become a role model and a source of inspiration for those who suffer the same fate.
Weight Loss
In 2016, Susan Boyle was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The condition as warned by doctors threatened her newfound bubbling singing career and the star was not willing to see that happen. To save her life and her career, Susan cut down her intake of junk foods and tried out healthier options. The move paid off and Susan has shed a significant amount of weight, looking slimmer than usual.
Is She Dead or Alive?
A certain unverified claim on the death of Susan Boyle suddenly appeared on Facebook, generating tons of likes and condolence comments. It was later found that the news was fake and Susan is very much alive. This was confirmed by her representatives.
After the release of her 7th album, A Wonderful World, nothing has been heard from the Scottish singing sensation. On that, her representatives, though not spilling every information also confirms that Susan is currently doing some studio work.
Net Worth, House
Susan’s chart-topping first album I Dreamed a Dream was UK’s best-selling debut album of all time. It sold over 400, 000 copies in the first week of its release. She is worth an estimated £26 million.
While there has been a milestone transformation in her personality, Susan has remained the same regular woman next door that she has always been. Not thrilled by the millions in her name, Susan says her most prized possessions at a time was a “£300 fur coat and a bottle of Chanel No.5.” The first significant purchase Susan made was buying the £65,000 worth four-bedroom ex-council house in Blackburn, where she grew up and still lives in till date. She also gave a shot at living in another £300,000 five-bedroom house but still preferred to go back “home”. Her niece now occupies the brand new space.
Meanwhile, it is believed that the fortune of the non-extravagant star has stirred up some dust in the family. Susan also makes donations to charitable causes.
