Susan Silver is a music manager whose career has seen her manage very big names in the music world including Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees, and Soundgarden. More than that, she is also very popular as the former wife of Chris Cornell whom she was married to for more than a decade before they went their separate ways in 2014. Silver has not only limited herself to music management as she is also a businesswoman who co-owns The Crocodile, which is a club in Seattle.

Susan Silver’s Biography

On July 17, 1958, Susan Jean Silver was born in Seattle, Washington, U.S. to Emmogene (Jean) Molly Silver and Sam Silver. Her mother was first married to a man known as Gordon Slovarp with whom she had a child Paulette before she later met Silver who was an Airline pilot. From the marriage of her parents, the actress was brought up together with two siblings Mark and Bruce in West Seattle. Unfortunately, she much later lost her brother, Bruce.

For her education, Susan went to the University of Washington from where she graduated with a major in Chinese. In 1983 when she was still in her 20s, she started her career as a music manager with First Thought and The U-Men.

In the years that followed, she soon rose into becoming one of the biggest music managers in Seattle, working with bands such as Soundgarden which she began managing in 1986 and Screaming Trees. Two years later, she listened to a tape by Alice in Chains which she liked. She later attended their concert and realized she liked them even more. That was how her journey to managing the rock band began.

She also managed Sweet Water, Hater, Sponge, Crackerbox, and Kristen Barry among many others. In addition to that, Susan Silver was good in management that even before she went too far in it, she got to manage a shoe store in her home of Seattle.

Relationship With Chris Cornell

As stated, Silverman was once married to Chris Cornell who was a singer and songwriter. The vocalist of Soundgarden and Audioslave bands, he was one of those that introduced grunge music.

In 1985, when Silver was still young as into the music management business and Cornell was still trying out as a singer, the couple met and before long, they started dating. They continued seeing each other until 1990 when they decided to make it official by tying the knot.

For the next 10 years after their marriage, they remained without a child until 2000 when they had their only daughter, Lillian Jean. Unfortunately, only four years later, their love story turned sour and they walked their different paths in divorce. In that same year, 2004, the singer got married for a second time to Vicky Karayiannis.

The divorce between the two was in no way a peaceful one. The singer accused his former wife of defrauding him and still holding on to some of his possessions including his guitar and his Grammy. However, Susan insisted his claims were baseless. Cornell who later claimed on social media that he got back his guitars got a restraining order against a man he said was hired by his estranged wife to stalk him.

Silver is also a businesswoman who found the Atmosphere Artist Management company together with Deborah Semer in 2005. She also owns a part of the Crocodile Cafe together with others like Peggy Curtis, Sean Kinney, and Eric Howk.

After many years in the business, she called it quits in 1998 when she shut down her company so she could have time for her family and later daughter.

The death of her ex-husband

On May 18, 2017, tragedy struck after the famous singer was found unconscious in his hotel room. He was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. His death was said to be as a result of apparent suicide with no foul play following the review of the camera footage of the hotel.
