If anyone had mentioned the name SZA in the same breath as the Grammy awards a few years back, even the soulful singer would have doubted it herself. But fast forward to 2018 and the speed of her career has been so immense that she is the name on everyone’s lips at the Grammys with five nominations, making her the most nominated woman at the prestigious award night.
Bio, Age, Ethnicity
SZA was born in St. Louis, Missouri but was raised in the upper-middle-class suburbs in Maplewood, New Jersey. She has an older half-sister Tiffany Daniels. As with most children born to devout Muslims, she attended conventional schools at day and Muslim prep-school at night.
Born on November 8, 1990, SZA is of African American heritage, though her both parents have different religious beliefs. Her mother is a Christian while her dad is a Muslim. Her real names are Solàna Imani Rowe.
An exceptional student, SZA excelled in the sciences while she attended the famous Columbia High School. As a student, she was an excellent gymnast who took particular interest in Marine Biology. As a youngster, she was rated as one of the nation’s brightest stars in gymnastics. After leaving Columbia High, she enrolled at Essex County College to study liberal arts.
As a young child, SZA’s musical inclinations were shaped by her fathers’ conservative values which meant she was shielded from the rough and vulgar lyrics of mainstream pop music. SZA’s journey to professional music began in 2011 when she was introduced to Top Dawg Entertainment, a successful record label which was home to established names such as , ScHoolboy Q amongst others.
