Teyana Taylor’s Bio

Teyana Taylor was born on December 10, 1990. She grew up in Harlem, Manhattan, New York. She is African-American with Trinidian ancestry. Taylor’s numerous talents manifested from a pretty young age and with the support of her mother, she participated in several talent contests although she didn’t win any of them.

In 2006, 16-year-old Teyana Taylor was credited as the choreographer on ‘s hit single “Ring the Alarm.” She landed a recording deal with Pharell Williams’ record label Star Trak Entertainment in early 2007. The youngster made her first major TV appearance on an episode of the MTV reality series My Super Sweet Sixteen which chronicled her own 16th birthday party. Later that year, she was featured as a dancer on ‘s 2007 hit “Blue Magic”.

In February 2008, Teyana Taylor released own debut single “Google Me”, which became the lead single of her first mixtape From a Planet Called Harlem which was released the following year. “Google Me” peaked at No. 90 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The multitalented artist delved into acting in August 2010 starring in Stomp the Yard: Homecoming, a sequel to 2007’s Stomp the Yard. This was followed by an appearance on the first episode of the reality TV series House of Glam. 

In November 2010, Teyana Taylor got the opportunity to feature on ‘s fifth studio album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, notably on songs like “Dark Fantasy” and “Hell of a Life”. She was also featured on Kanye’s “Christmas In Harlem” single which was released on the latter’s GOOD Friday music series. While actively working on her music, Taylor landed a role alongside Bow Wow on ‘s comedy-drama film Madea’s Big Happy Family (2011).

Teyana Taylor’s contract with Star Trak ended in January 2012. Still an independent artist, she began work on her next full-length project. She released her 2nd mixtape The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor in March 2012 after which she landed a joint-venture record deal with ‘s GOOD Music label and The Island Def Jam Music Group (DJMG).

She made contributions to GOOD Music’s Cruel Summer (2012) compilation album. Her chart-topping debut album VII (2014) featured collaborations with , Pusha T, Fabolous among several other artists. Having taken time off music to further her acting career and start a family, Teyana Taylor eventually released her sophomore album K.T.S.E. in June 2018 which debuted at No. 17 on the US Billboard 200.
