In 2015, reports surfaced that Gwen had discovered that her husband was cheating on her with their nanny, Mindy Mann, in an affair that had been going on, unknown to her, for about three years. Before we delve into the details of Rossdale’s alleged affair, here is a look at other possible reasons that could have put a strain and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s marriage.

Rossdale’s Love Child

Out of the blues, in 2004, two years after Gwen and Gavin’s marriage, reports surfaced that Gavin Rossdale had fathered a lovechild with Pearl Lowe, an English fashion and textiles designer. The fact that it took a paternity test to confirm Rossdale as the father of the child meant that Stefani could have also not been in the know of her husband’s relationship with Lowe. Their child, a daughter named Daisy Rebecca Lowe, was born in 1989, she is now a model.

Rossdale’s Relationship with a Man

In 1995, Gavin Rossdale outrightly denied the claims made in his autobiography, Take It Like A Man, that he was in a gay relationship with Peter Robinson, aka Marilyn. However, in 2003, Robinson dedicated his song “Hold on Tight” to Rossdale in honor of the years when they had a passionate relationship. Rossdale by 2009 finally opened up about his 1980s relationship with Robinson. And from the look of things, it is highly unlikely that his wife Stefani knew all along.

The Nanny Affair

In February 2015, Gwen discovered that her nanny, Mindy, whom she had employed to help with her children was having an affair with her husband. Gwen immediately fired her. Several sources revealed that whenever Gwen was away, Mindy would take the kids to visit Rossdale when he was on tour and have sex with him when the kids were asleep.

While Gwen hasn’t exactly detailed what happened, she wrote the song Used To Love and its succeeding album This Is What the Truth Feels Like, about her relationship with Rossdale. She revealed that she wrote the album when she discovered her husband’s cheating. In “Used To Love” Gwen speaks about a moment when something major happened which ultimately led to the divorce.

In a 2016 interview, Gwen said that no one knew the specifics of her divorce except those involved and that no one would actually believe her if she was to detail exactly what happened. When asked if she knew all along that something was up with Rossdale, she told the interviewer that everything was in the 2016 album. Stefani also added that the events leading to her break up put her through moments of torture.

Gavin Rossdale has also not given specifics about the divorce but in his interview with Fabulous Magazine, he admitted that he wasn’t happy with the divorce and that there were many things he could have done differently looking back. He also hinted that he had regrets and that, regardless of the split, still thought that Gwen is an incredible person.
