There’s so much to know and learn from the suicide story of the pretty American teen. Just read on to find them and other lesser-known facts.

Brief Bio of Katelyn Nicole Davis

Until her tragic death on December 30, 2016, Katelyn Nicole Davis was a 12-years-old girl born on February 20, 2004, in Rome, Georgia, in the United States of America. She is the daughter of Tammy Michelle Rogers and Matthew Reed Davis. She is an American by nationality and of the Caucasian ethnicity.

She grew up without her father by her side. According to the teen, her father refused to pay child support but would spend hours playing video games. Her mother, as she once shared in one of her videos is married to Anthony Lee Rogers, with whom she gave birth to her young step-siblings, Abigail Lee Rogers and A.J Lee Rogers.

Katelyn Nicole Davis attended Cedartown Middle School but didn’t earn a higher education certificate because her mother had no money to see her through school. The only time she had a hope of making it to college was after she joined the National Leaders Association for Young Leaders, which promised to see her through college but her stepfather allegedly told her she was “too stupid to be in something like that” and ended up burning her papers in her face.

The Suicide of Katelyn Nicole Davis

The incident took place in the evening hours of December 30, 2016. On that fateful day,  the twelve-year-old filmed herself walking from her room to the yard of her family’s home.

The entire video, which is 42-minutes long, captured the teen preparing a noose, hanging it from a tree and then taking her own life by short-drop strangulation. The suicide was live-streamed on Live.me, a popular app for teens, and was posted under her username “ITZ Dolly”.

In the video, Davis, who was clearly worn down by anxiety and stress, could be heard crying and pleading for forgiveness for the act she was about to take. She went on to confess that she was physically and sexually abused by a member of her family called Anthony Lee Rogers Sr.

After she must have hung herself, her lifeless body was caught by the camera for about 20 minutes. The live stream was abruptly ended by repeated calls on her phone and by the time neighbors discovered what has happened it was too late to save her life. She was later rushed to Polk Medical Center but was pronounced dead after a short period of time.

Katelyn’s last video was not the first disturbing video to have appeared on her timeline. She had previously live-streamed dozens of disturbing videos in the last month of her young life, with so many capturing her other suicide attempts.

Her last suicide attempt before her actual death was through medication overdose but she was resuscitated at the hospital. Just a few days before her death, she was caught on camera cutting her thighs, laps, and wrist – crying out loud for being depressed and fed up with life.

Here’s What We Know So Far

1. Davis had a Tough Childhood

As her blogs would have us believe, Katelyn was raised in a home that was almost falling into disrepair. Her mother, Tammy Rogers, has no job. In fact, the teen once disclosed that her mother struggled with hard drugs and also sold prescription medication just to put food on the table. The teenager also alleged that her mother physically abused her, forcing her to sleep on the wet floor and take care of her younger siblings.

Katelyn had no positive male role model in her life. The only man who could have been that was her stepfather, the very man she accused of beating her with a studded belt and abusing her sexually.

2. She Dedicated much of her Time on Live.me Seeking Attention from Older Men

Davis’s regular activities on Live.me was a clear indication she really wanted to escape the reality she was living in. Investigations after her death revealed that most of her fans were older men who took advantage of her vulnerability.

She is said to have had an online boyfriend called Luke Callahan, a 19-year-old internet user living in Massachusetts. Luke was found to be a “predator” who took advantage of her at the slightest opportunity.

A few days to her tragic death, the Georgia-born teen called it quits with Luke, revealing that he forced her to do some things she was not prepared for. In her suicide video, the so-called online boyfriend was the last person she apologized to for not being “good and pretty enough” to date a guy.

As gathered, there is ample evidence that suggests that Luke may have harassed her sexually, and could also be indirectly responsible for Katelyn’s sudden slip into suicidal depression.

3. The Suicide of Katelyn Nicole Davis Gave Rise to an Outpouring of Emotion on the Internet

Many internet users, particularly Facebook users, mourned the death of the 12-year-old girl shortly after the news of her passing spread. The Facebook community was flooded with tributes from her friends and strangers as well. A memorial Facebook page captioned: “Justice for Katelyn Nicole Davis” was later set up in her honor.

On Twitter, a user with the handle @mollzzz_17 simply wrote “rest in peace Katelyn. Fly high with the angels baby. It was truly heartbreaking. 12/30/16 #RIPKatelyn” while another Twitter user – @4evAmyWinehouse – added: “The passing of Katelyn Davis has me beyond words. My heart is shattered. #RIPKatelyn #ItzDolly #DiaryOfABrokenDoll Fly high & find peace.”

4. Katelyn’s Suicide Video Stirred a Great Deal of Concern Shortly After her Death

Weeks after her passing, Katelyn’s suicide video was still circulating online, leading to many people calling from several countries, calling for it to be deleted from Facebook. At first, the Polk County Police Chief, Kenny Dodd, admitted that it was unable to prevent people from sharing the disturbing video but after a long period of time, the viral spread of the video was curtailed and the 43-minutes video was subsequently removed from the internet.

Although Davis’ tragic end impacted millions of people, only a few people expressed worry that the authorities may not take a closer look at details implicating cyberbullies like Luke Callahan, Anthony Rogers, and other masked bullies.

5. The Police Is still Investigating Circumstances Surrounding her Death

As gathered, the police is still investigating the cause of her death. Initially, their focus was on the nature of her death but the department has since shifted their investigation to reasons why she took her life.

An autopsy has since been carried out by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine the official cause of her death and it appears no charges have been filed in the case by the police.

6. According to multiple sources, while Katelyn was about to hang herself, a young Moroccan resident named AB Tarik bullied her during the live stream.

7. Davis renamed her suicide live stream on Live.me to “Suicide” before she started her “mission”.

Though Katelyn Nicole Davis died young from depression, loneliness, anxiety, and abuse, she would be remembered for her charismatic personality, wisdom, and interesting philosophical conversations on her live streams.
