Todd Bowles is one of the names that can’t be forgotten in a hurry as far as American football is concerned. He is not just popular for being the head coach of the New York Giants of the National Football League; he also played professionally in the league as a safety. As a player, he led the Washington Redskins to a resounding victory at the 1987 Super Bowl XXII championship. Todd Bowles’ Bio

Born Todd Robert Bowles in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 18, 1963, to African-American parents, Bowles attended Elizabeth High School growing up. This is where he kicked off his football career and after his high school career, he also played college football with the Temple Owls football team of the Temple University.

As a player, Todd Bowles played professionally from 1986 to 1993. He signed up with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent after the NFL draft of 1986. After playing five seasons for the Redskins, Bowles signed up with the San Francisco 49ers in 1991 and in 1993 he ultimately retired as a player.

Coaching Career

Soon after his retirement, Todd served as a member of the Green Bay Packers personnel staff from 1995 to 1996. He went on to become the defensive coordinator at Morehouse College in 1997. Subsequently, he served as defensive backs coach for Grambling State University from 1998 to 1999, New York Jets in 2000, Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004, and Dallas Cowboys from 2005 to 2007.

In 2008, Bowles joined Miami Dolphins as an assistant head coach and after four years, he was named the interim head coach of the Dolphins. He finished the 2011 season with a 2 – 1 record. For his impressive record, many other NFL teams sought for Bowles services. He later signed up with the Philadelphia Eagles as a secondary coach and defensive coordinator. He left the team after the 2012 season.

Bowles was signed by Arizona Cardinals in January 2013 as a defensive coordinator. He won the AP’s Assistant Coach of the Year Award courtesy of his efforts during the 2014 season. He left the Cardinals in 2015, after which he signed up with the New York Jets for the second time. After the release of coach Rex Ryan, Bowles was named the head coach of the Jets. He agreed to a four-year deal with the team and in December 2017, Bowles was retained by the Jets. He further signed a contract extension that would last until 2020.
