Cavanagh is a well-rounded actor, acting not only in television but in films and theater as well. Additionally, he is also a director and is known for directing several episodes of The CW superhero television series The Flash where he has played several versions aka doppelgängers of Harrison Wells. Tom Cavanagh – Bio, Age

Tom Cavanagh was born to Roman Catholic Irish parents in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on the 26th day of October 1963. His parents who were teachers volunteered to work in third world countries like Ghana where Cavanagh would come to spend a part of his early childhood. During his stay at Winneba, Ghana, Cavanagh contracted malaria which would later influence his decision to become an active donor to Nothing But Nets, a United Nations Foundation that raises awareness and funds to tackle malaria in African countries.

Cavanagh has at least four siblings including a brother who is a crown attorney in Ottawa, Ontario, and three sisters, two of who live in Canada and the other in the United Kingdom.

From Ghana, a teenage Cavanagh and his parents relocated to Lennoxville, Quebec where he would come to attend the private high school, Séminaire de Sherbrooke. At high school, he proved to be an athletic kid as he played basketball for the varsity Barons team. He also learned French at the school and is now bilingual, speaking French and English.

Tom Cavanagh attended Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario where he would come to graduate with degrees in English, Biology, and Education in 1987. Despite his busy academic schedule, Cavanagh still found time from extra-curricular activities. He not only played in the college basketball team but ice hockey as well. It was at Queens that Tom Cavanagh would become interested in acting. He developed a passion for theater and music and after graduation, he landed a role in the 1989 Broadway revival of “Shenandoah,” gaining some level of exposure. Cavanagh has not looked back since then. He continued to appear in theatric roles and in the early 90s added TV and film roles in his native Canada. One of his most popular roles was in a TV commercial for Labatt’s Blue beer.

As years passed, Tom Cavanagh transitioned to American TV; one of his earliest roles being as Doug the Dog Guy in NBC’s Providence. He received critical acclaim for his first lead role as Ed Stevens in Ed, an NBC TV series that premiered in 2000. The role earned him a TV Guide Award, and a Golden Globe nomination before it ended in 2004.

Ed proved to be Cavanagh’s breakthrough as he began getting bigger roles after the show ended. He got his first film starring role in the 2004 thriller Heart of the Storm. He has added some other notable film credits to his name including Breakfast with Scot (2006), Raw Feed horror film series, Yogi Bear (2010), 400 Days (2015), among others. Cavanagh’s other notable TV shows would then include; Scrubs, Love Monkey, Eli Stone, Trust Me, Royal Pains, and of course, The Flash.

Tom Cavanagh has long begun the process of building a family. The actor on the 31st of July 2004 married Maureen Grise. Though she isn’t a popular name in the media, Cavanagh’s wife has spent over two decades working with one of the most prominent sports magazines – Sports Illustrated. At SI, Maureen works as a photographer/image editor. The couple had their wedding in a Catholic church at Nantucket, Massachusetts.

As of this writing, Cavanagh and his wife have welcomed four children. Their first issue, a daughter named Alice Ann was born on the 10th of February 2006. A son named Thomas Cavanagh, Jr. joined the family on June 29, 2007. Their other two children include another son James Joseph, born August 5, 2009, and another daughter named Katie Cavanagh whose birthdate remains unknown to the media.
