Tomas Berdych is a Czech-born professional tennis player. Early in his career, Berdych recorded his biggest win when he clinched the 2005 Paris Masters title. He recorded another highlight of his career at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, where he pulled off 2 successive upsets over tennis superstars  in the quarterfinals and  in the semis. Unfortunately, he couldn’t repeat the feat in the final where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Tomáš Berdych was born on September 17, 1985, to Hana and Martin Berdych in Moravia, Czechoslovakia (present-day Czech Republic). His father, Martin Berdychová, was a train engineer and he was equally very good at tennis. His mother Hana is a physician.

The young Berdych started practising tennis when he was just five at a tennis centre in his hometown of Valašské Meziříčí, Moravia. He was a top junior player, winning several titles including the Czech Republic U-12 Junior Title. He also won the 2001 US Open Boys’ Doubles title alongside Stephane Bohli before going professional the following year.

After taking part in several Futures and Challenger tournaments, Tomas Berdych eventually clinched his first ATP title at the 2004 Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia in Palermo, Italy. He also put up a good run at the 2005 Swedish Open before losing the final to . He went on to clinch his first ATP Masters Series title at the 2005 Paris Masters. Two years later, he won his third ATP title at the 2007 Halle Open. This was followed by one title in 2008 (AIG Japan Open) and another in 2009 (the 2009 BMW Open).

The following year, Tomas Berdych reached his first Grand Slam final at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships by defeating defending champion Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic en route. He eventually finished as runner-up of the tournament after succumbing to Rafael Nadal in the final match. In 2011, he clinched his 6th career title by overcoming Marin Čilić at the final of the 2011 China Open.

Tomas Berdych paired with compatriot Petra Kvitová to win the 2012 Hopman Cup for the Czech Republic. He went on to win the 2012 Open Sud de France and also reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 US Open, becoming the third Czech player to reach the quarter-finals of all 4 Majors. Two years later, Tomas Berdych overcame at the final of the 2014 Stockholm Open to clinch his only title of the year. He also won the 2015 Shenzhen Open followed by the 2015 Stockholm Open title, successfully defending the title which he won the previous year and clinching his 12th ATP World Tour title.

In 2016, Tomas Berdych picked his 13th ATP title at the Shenzhen Open where he defeated Richard Gasquet at the finals. The Czech-born tennis star was plagued by several injuries in 2017, however, he was able to reach the semis of the 2017 Wimbledon championships where he was defeated by the eventual champion Roger Federer.
