Bio

Tony Robbins was born Anthony J. Mahavoric on the 29th Of February 1960 in North Hollywood, California. He was however predominantly raised in Azusa and Glendora which are both cities in the State of California. His parents (whose names are unknown) got divorced while he was really young. As a matter of fact, he was just 7 when it happened and he describes the experience as a torrid one. His mother, on the other hand, remarried severally causing a lot of instability in Tony’s life. Tony had to deal with the emotional trauma of getting a new dad the very moment he was getting used to the old one. One of such new dads who ended up being an old dad was a baseball player named Jim Robbins.

Jim Robbins adopted Tony when he was 12 years old explaining why Tony ditched his last name Maharovic for Robbins. In her quest to find love, Tony’s mother barely had time to cater for him and his 3 younger siblings. As the eldest child, Tony had to take up that humongous responsibility. He resorted to doing odd jobs to earn money to provide some of the basic needs of his younger ones.

Surprisingly, Tony Robbins’ educational background is not really as solid or flattering as some might think. He attended Glendora High School and rose to the height of student body president in his senior year. However, Tony could no longer deal with the frustration of living with his mother and so when he was 17 he left home. This contributed greatly to his lack of college education. He eventually took up a job as a janitor to make ends meet.

From Nothing To Something

How Tony Robbins went through all he had to and still ended up a multimillionaire seems almost miraculous. After working as a janitor, he became a seminar promoter for Jim Rohn who is an author as well as a motivational speaker. He was still 17 years old when he started promoting seminars for Jim Rohn. Tony would go on to master and teach NLP, Ericksonian Hypnosis, as well as fire-walking by the time he was 23.

By 1988, Tony had already organized several seminars in which he incorporated his Ericksonian Hypnosis and fire walking skills. In that same year of 1988, he released his first infomercial which was titled Personal Power and was produced by Guthy Renker. Over the next 3 years, Tony’s infomercial would go on to be viewed by over 100 million Americans. In 1997, Tony Robbins started the Leadership Academy Seminar which has been attended by throngs of prominent Americans and viewed by over 4 million people.

Tony Robbins’ Career

Tony is the co-founder of Robbins-Madanes Center for Intervention. He founded this organization together with Cloé Madanes for the purpose of training other life coaches, helping families and counseling people dealing with addiction. During the course of his career as a life coach, Tony Robbins has worked with prominent people from different works of life. Some of which include former US President Bill Clinton, tennis superstar , Hollywood star Hugh Jackman, as well as American rap icon, .

Tony made the list of the “Top 50 Business Intellectuals” compiled by Accenture and was named among the “Top 200 Business Gurus” by the Harvard Business Press.

Wife, Divorce, Children

Robbins has been married twice. In 1984, Tony met and fell in love with one of the attendees of his seminar. Her name was Rebecca Jenkins. Rebecca had previously been married twice with 3 kids, but that didn’t seem to bother Tony. As a matter of fact, he married her and adopted all her kids (one of which is Jolie Jenkins). However, after 14 years of marriage, Tony and Jenkins got divorced.

About 3 years after his divorce with Rebecca Jenkins, Tony married Bonnie Robbins nee Humphrey in October 2001. This marriage didn’t go down well with some people. The Vancouver Sun wrote an article on it and referred to Tony as a “wife stealing hypocrite”. Tony sued them for defamation and was rewarded 20,000 USD. Although they have no kids together, Tony and Bonnie remain happily married to this day.

Tony has also fathered a child out of wedlock. In 1984, his ex-girlfriend, Liz Acosta gave birth to a son named Jairek Robbins. Jairek is a successful motivational speaker and performance coach. He is actually Tony’s only biological child.
