Travis Kelce has been making his own way and setting his own records since his time at high school where he played multiple sports. Eventually settling for football, he plays as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. He has been with the team since he was selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Travis Kelce’s Bio

Travis Michael Kelce was born on October 5, 1989, in Westlake, Ohio. In high school, he excelled in different sports, playing basketball, football, and baseball.

For his football contributions, he played three years at the quarterback position and was awarded an All-Lake Erie League honors, posting remarkable stats and performances. His performances in baseball saw him touted as a potential outfielder by former baseball right fielder, Reggie Sanders. His senior year of high school saw him record a .577 batting average, making him the top hitter in the school.

Travis gained admission into the University of Cincinnati on a full scholarship. Here he decided to focus on football. The year 2008 was a redshirt year for him. He was back in 2009 and made 11 appearances for the Bearcats at tight end and quarterback. He would again sit out the next season due to his violation of team rules. For his senior year, he earned first team all-conference honors, for his personal career-high statistics which included 722 receiving yards, 16 yards per reception and 8 touchdowns. He was also named Tight End of the Year by the College Football Performance Awards in 2012.

Professional Career

In 2013, Travis Kelce joined the Kansas City Chiefs after he was drafted in the NFL Draft. He was signed to a four-year $3.12 million rookie contract. A few months later, he sustained an injury and was put on injured reserve. He made only one appearance for the team in his rookie season.

The only blemish on his second season was his $11,025 fine after he made inappropriate gestures at Von Miller in a game against Kansas City and the Denver Broncos. Other than that, 67 receptions in 862 yards, making him the best leading receiver for the team. In 2015, he started all the regular games of the season and 5 touchdowns and 72 catches for 875 yards. It was also his first year at the Pro Bowl.

Ahead of the 2016 season, the tight end signed an improved $46 million contract extension covering the next five years. He was also on the No.91 spot on the NFL’s list of Top 100 Players of 2016. He has received a $24,309 fine for “unsportsmanlike misconduct”. However, he finished the season with career-highs in yards and receptions and was named to the ProBowl for his second consecutive season. It was also his first time being named to the First-team All-Pro. He then moved up to No. 26 on the 2017 edition of the NFL Top 100 Players list. He has continued his fine form for the club since then retaining his place in the Pro Bowl and his reputation as the team’s best tight end player.

In 2016, Travis Kelce announced that he would premiere his own dating show Catching Kelce on the E! Network. The show is inspired by The Bachelor reality competition. It covers the experience of a group of women from every state of the United States competing for Travis’s companionship.

Kelce has an older brother, Jason Kelce who is on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles. Travis and Jason played together at the University of Cincinnati. When former Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Andy Reid took the top job at Kansas City Chiefs, it was his experience with Jason while he was at Philadelphia that formed part of his decision to bring Travis on as a Kansas City player.
