NBA Career

The American basketballer was not chosen in the 2014 NBA Draft after he graduated from college but was later signed as a free agent by the Miami Heat in August of that year. He was relinquished by the Heats after about two months at the club and was acquired by the Sioux Falls Skyforce as an affiliate player for the Miami Heat the following month being November 2014. In the subsequent year, Johnson re-signed for the Miami Heat on January 15, 2015, for a contract that would last for only 10 days which also followed another layoff on January 22 and another 10-day contract re-sign on January 29. But finally, on February 8th, the player landed a 2-year contract with the team.

Early in his career for the Heats, he recorded 26 points and 4 steals in a 115–98 win against the Phoenix Suns. A few days later, he scored a career high of 24 points immediately after coming out from the bench, helping the team win the Sacramento Kings in a 114–109 victory. In the subsequent year in July, he suffered a broken jaw injury which he sustained while playing for the Heat during the 2015 NBA Summer League. He came back to action five months later and scored 20 points – recorded as a season-high score in his team’s unfortunate loss to the Charlotte Hornets. After his match appearances against the Hornets, Johnson was struck with yet another injury in his left shoulder that demanded surgery in February the following year. He came back to action after three months of inactive play and became a restricted agent that same season and re-signed a new contract with his team after rejecting being signed over by the Brooklyn Nets.
