Tyus Jones is one of those NBA players who even though he’s not one of the biggest stars at the moment, is full of unquestionable potentials. Having led the Duke University to its NCAA Division 1 title in 2015 and was crowned the MVP of the final game, he decided on giving a shot at the NBA draft where he was selected as the 24th overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, he did not get to play for the team as it traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves and it is with this team that he signed his rookie contract. He remained with the team until 2019 and then moved back to Memphis to play for the Memphis Grizzlies. This move was because the Timberwolves were not ready to match the offer made by the Grizzlies for the point guard.

According to the latest contract he signed, Tyus Jones will remain tied to the team for three years valued at $26,445,300. He has a $23,895,300 guaranteed payment.

In the first year of the contract, his salary is $8,408,000 as well as incentives of $850,000. Interestingly, the contract has a dead cap value of $9,258,000. In the second and third years of the contract, Jones will take home $7,965,100 and $7,522,200 respectively as his annual base salary as well as incentives of $850,000 each year. The dead cap value of the two years is $7,965,100 and $8,000,000 respectively.

Details of His Contract With Minnesota Timberwolves

In the first year, 2015, he took home a salary of $1,282,080 while in the second year, it moved up to $1,339,680. He took home a salary of $1,471,382 in his third year and then $2,444,053 in his final season. The next contract that would be offered to him by the team was less than what the Grizzles tabled for him and so he decided to make the switch.

Here’s Everything to Know About His Family

His family has basketball in its blood

Born Tyus Robert Jones on May 10, 1996, in Apple Valley, basketball is something that seems to be a part of his family’s gene. He began playing early taking a cue from his parents, Debbie and Robert Jones, both of whom played the sports when they were young. While Deb played as a point guard when she was at the Devils Lake High School, Rob who stands at a massive height of 6 feet 6 inches also played to the collegiate level. In the ’80s, he represented the University of Wisconsin–Parkside at Division III.

Debbie Jones is his main influence

Inasmuch as both his parents have been involved in basketball, it is his mother that he considers the main person that has influenced his love for the sport. She became his first and earliest coach as a child.

His mother has battled Cancer

In January 2019, Tyus and his entire family were thrown into a sudden shock after Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer. Initially, she decided it was best not to tell her sons what she was suffering from. However, doctors advised her to let them know so that they can all confront the disease as a family. 10 months later, with the support of Tyus and his siblings whom she described as her doctors, Debbie came out on top of the disease as she was later declared cancer-free.

Tyus Jones has two brothers

The Grizzlies point guard was brought up as the second of three kids. Both his older and younger brothers – Jadee Jones and Tre Jones – have also been involved with basketball. Jadee played to college level before he called it quits while Tre currently plays college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. Tyus is also said to have a half-brother named Reggie Bunch who was an NAIA All-American at Robert Morris in 2010.

His parents got divorced

The marriage between the parents of Jones did not last forever as they later parted ways in divorce. The reason behind the divorce or even when it happened is not known.

Is Tyus Jones married?

Tyus Jones is not yet married but he definitely has a woman in his life. Even though he is one of those people who largely prefer to keep their personal life as private as possible and away from the media, he has made it clear via social media that he is not single. He is in a relationship with a woman named Carrie. Already, the two are engaged and are expecting their first child.

The athlete formerly dated Alyssa Goehner, his teenage love. Alyssa played volleyball for Lakeville High School and later the University of Minnesota. They dated up to the time when Tyus was at Duke.

Is he related to Tre Jones?
