Greta Van Susteren is another very popular face on the U.S media. The lawyer turned anchorwoman, has in her twenty-years media career worked for NBC News, CNN and Fox News.  She was a regular legal analyst on CNN during the‘s murder trials and soon began co-hosting CNN’s Burden of Proof and The Point.

Greta Van Susteren’s Bio

Van Susteren was born as Greta Conway Van Susteren on June 11, 1954, in Appleton, Wisconsin to a father of Dutch descent and a mother of Irish descent. Her father Urban Van Susteren was a good friend of one time U.S senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy was urban’s best man during his wedding with Van Susteren’s mother. And Urban served as McCarthy’s campaign strategist before they parted ways.

Her mom  Margery Conway, was a homemaker. Van Susteren has two siblings – Lise and Dirk Van Susteren. Her sister Lise is a practicing forensic psychiatrist in Bethesda, Maryland and she is also into politics. She was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for United States Senate in 2006.

Her brother was a journalist and long-time editor of the Vermont Sunday magazine before it ceased publishing in 2008.

Greta is an alumnus of Xavier High School, Appleton and the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She graduated from the former in 1972 and from the later in 1976 with a dual degree in geography and economics.

In 1979, she bagged J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Before pursuing a career in broadcasting, she worked in Georgetown Law as an adjunct faculty member, this is in addition to her full-time legal career. For her professionalism, Greta Van Susteren was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree by the Stetson Law School.

Carrer

She actually began her TV career appearing on CNN as a legal analyst during the O. J. Simpson murder trials and soon enough, she began co-hosting Burden of Proof and The Point on the same network. In 1998, she made a special celebrity guest appearance on the Cartoon Network’s adult animated parody talk show Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

In 2002, she made a switch to Fox News where she began hosting the network’s current affairs show On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. In 2016, she resigned from Fox News after fourteen years and was replaced on the show with Brit Hume.

Explaining her reason for leaving, Van Susteren, said that Fox has not really felt like home for her for a few years, and thus, she took advantage of the clause in her contract which gave her the right to resign from the network immediately if she so chooses.

After the media icon left Fox News in 2016, many have continued to wonder what happened to her and what she is currently up to. After leaving Fox News, Van Susteren signed a contract with NBC News to anchor its 6 p.m. ET program on MSNBC titled For the Record with Greta.

The program which began airing on January 9, 2017, was last aired on June 29, 2017, according to Van Susteren the program was stopped because it did not do well in ratings. In October 2017, she joined Voice of America, VOA, as a contributor.

Greta Van Susteren is currently a member of the Board of Directors at the National Institute for Civil Discourse (NICD) – an institute at the University of Arizona created after the 2011 Tucson shooting which left 6 people dead and 13 others seriously wounded, including Gabrielle Giffords (a US House of Representative member).

Greta Van Susteren is also a co-owner of the Old Mill Inn, a restaurant in Mattituck, New York from August 2006 until January 2014 and her net worth is reported to be $35 million.

Her Husband And Kids

The media commentator and legal analyst has been married to millionaire lawyer and her former law partner, John P. Coale since 1988.

The couple who are both members of the Church of Scientology has no child (ren) together. Although Coale has been married previously, there is no confirmed information if he has kids from his previous marriage. 

However, they have a cat named Bill and a dog named Sophia.
