However, in spite of such an impeccable career achievement, Matt Lauer was fired by NBC in November 2017.

Matt Lauer was born on December 30th, 1957 to parents, Marilyn Kolmer and Jay Robert. After his birth in New York City, his family moved to Greenwich, Connecticut and that was where he spent his formative years. However, his parents separated when Matt was still a young boy.

From being an intern at WOWK-TV which was located in West Virginia, Matt Lauer became the producer of the 12 O’clock News. About a year into this new assignment, he was appointed as an on-air reporter. This was followed by several other assignments which gradually paved the way for Matt to become one of the top-notch journalists internationally. What Happened To Matt Lauer? Why Was He Sacked?

With more than two decades of working with the NBC News, Matt Lauer did not only build a very successful career but he became a very integral part of notable shows aired by the network. It, therefore, came as a surprise on November 29, 2017, when NBC News made it known to the public that Matt had been fired. The network even went on to say that he would not be given a financial settlement on the grounds that he was dismissed for legitimate reasons which were no other than sexual harassment. It was also revealed during this period that the recent case that prompted Matt’s dismissal was not the first time he had indulged in such an act. Sources dug up incidents that happened as far back as 2000.

The journalist also had publications like Variety and The New York Times on his tail for the same reasons. According to Variety, Matt had sexually harassed about 10 of his female colleagues and had even forced a relationship with Addie Zinone, one of the production assistants on the Today show, sometime in June 2000.

Although Matt Lauer later gave a statement to the contrary with regards to the allegations, he had to admit that there was an element of truth in what he was being accused of. He cited that his relationship with Addie was something he was ashamed to have started as it was glaring that he forced her into it. He, therefore, left NBC News and like a typical story of grace to grass, there was no form of compensation given for the termination of his contract.

What Is Matt Doing Now?

Upon his dismissal, Matt Lauer went on to face a whole new crisis on the family front. Initially, he tried to lead a quiet life, hook up with old friends and do those things his busy career had deprived him of over the years but one thing he could not fix was his marriage. His wife, Annette Roque, with whom he had 3 kids – Jack, Romy, and Thijs – eventually filed for divorce about a year after the sex scandal. However, the procedures were finally concluded on September 7th, 2019.

The journalist has also been cited making plans to sell off his home in the Hamptons which is worth about $44 million as part of Roque’s divorce settlement. Matt is also likely to lose his farm ranch to his ex-wife who truly loves the place.

Aside from his divorce proceedings, Matt Lauer is presently living a normal life. He has even been seen at parties unwinding and he definitely looks like he has everything under control.
