The Texas native first taught himself to play the guitar when he was just 15 years old. He subsequently started jamming with other pop-punk enthusiasts and created his first band, The Upside, in 2005. McGraw spent about five years as the lead vocalist and guitarist of The Upside before joining an alternative rock band, Stars in Stereo, in 2011.

Stars in Stereo managed to drop a few singles but did not make much headway. They disbanded in 2015 and the relentless McGraw launched another band, Hundred Handed, that same year. Hundred Handed enjoyed a decent three-year run during which they dropped a couple of singles. They also performed at several events, including on the Steve Harvey Show. He dropped his eponymous debut solo EP in August 2019.
