Toni Yates was born in 1963 on November 29, in Jacksonville, Florida, in the United States. She belongs to the Black community and holds an American nationality. Her parents are Alton and Gwen Yates.
Yates had her high school education at Bishop Kenny High School and then obtained her first degree from Florida State University. The proud Seminole graduated with a major in Communications.
After her graduation, she moved to Georgia where she started her professional career in Savannah. Toni Yates landed her first job as a reporter at WTOC. Shortly after, she joined WSAV as a weekend co-anchor. In between, she returned to her hometown twice where she served first as a reporter for WTLV and on her second stint, as a weekend co-anchor for WJXT.
Besides Georgia, Yates has also worked in Norfolk, Virginia, where she held two jobs. She delivered morning news and at the same time worked as communications director for the March Of Dimes. In the course of her aspiring career fame, she moved further up the east coast where she landed the position of a general assignment reporter at WGAL, Lancaster in Pennsylvania.
The Seminoles, however, rose to fame when she started working in Philadelphia for WPHL-TV WB17 as a prompt news reporter and news anchor in 1994. After spending many years with the network, she left in December 2005 and joined WABC where she swiftly climbed the ranks from weekend anchor-medical reporter to weekday anchor. Her first assignment on the network was on Tropical Storm Beryl. Since then, she has reported numerous news and events, including on Jersey City cops and firefighters ending up on the wrong side of the law and the effects it has had on the departments and the public’s trust.
The veteran anchor is still blazing the trail at WABC-TV, though she now serves as the New Jersey-based reporter and fill-in co-anchor for Eyewitness News. Toni Yates is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists. During her days as a WB 17 news anchor, she hosted the Opening Reception of The Philadelphia Black Gay Pride’s 5th Annual. Yates, besides her journalistic career, has been associated with the Girl Scouts.

Arthur was the president of the National Association of Black Journalists from 1995 to 1997 and also served as the president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. He is also a philanthropist and the founder of The Arthur Fennell Foundation. Moreover, he is the recipient of more than seventy-five awards, including the prestigious Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists’ Vanguard Award, the 2009 Journalist of The Year Award in the Philadelphia region, as well as the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding News Anchor.
