Often described as a double Olympic gold medallist, Katarina Witt is a former German professional skater who dominated the sports in the 80s and early 90s. Although it’s been many years since she left the ice, Witt still has a lot of people who are interested in her life.

Katarina was born on the 3rd of December 1965 in Staaken. At the time, it was in East Germany, and that was where she was raised by her parents. While her father (Manfred Witt) was into farming, her mother (Käthe Witt) was a health worker. She was brought up alongside her brother, Axel Witt.

How Katarina Witt Began Her Figure Skating Career

For her education, Katarina schooled in Chemnitz. Because she showed athletic abilities as a little child, she was sent to a school for athletic kids called Kinder-und Jugendsportschule. Her childhood is dominated by the sports that she will grow up to be known for. She trained as much as possible and soon enough, she began going for competitions which she made good, thanks to her coach Jutta Müller.

Katarina Witt’s first international show didn’t end as great as she wanted; she finished 14th at the 1979 European Championships. Nevertheless, she was back in the international scene three years later with a better performance. The more events Katarina attended, the better she became.

Her most significant year was in 1984 when she won the Olympic gold medal at the event in Yugoslavia. That same year saw her win her first World Figure Skating Championship. The coming years would have her win another Olympics (in 1988) and the skating championship an additional four times. Witt also grabbed 6 European championships among others before finally retiring in 1994.

What Has She Been Doing Since Retirement?

After retirement, Katarina Witt founded a skating production company and in 2005, she started a charity organization to care for children with disabilities. She has also published two books thus far, including a memoir.

In addition to the above, Witt became a media personality with appearances in several TV shows and movies. She has appeared in films like Ronin, Jerry Maguire, and shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and V.I.P.

Details of Katarina Witt’s Romantic Relationships

As she is over 50 years, there are many people who keep asking if the former skater is married and who her husband is. While she is yet to get married, she has been in a good number of relationships thus far.

Katarina Witt has been linked to over ten men in the past with some of the relationships spanning years while others ended as soon as they began. That stated, it is important to point out that although she has been linked to many men, some of them are only rumored relationships.

Ingo Politz, Alberto Tomba, and Kurt Browning

As a young woman, one of the first relationships that the German found herself in was in 1984; when she dated German musician, composer, and music producer, Ingo Politz. The relationship went with many promises for four years before it came to an abrupt end.

After the end of their romance, she was briefly linked to former Italian alpine ski racer, Alberto Tomba. Soon afterward, Witt was also rumored to have something to do with Canadian former skater, Kurt Browning. Both of these relationships ended almost as quickly as they started.

Rolf Brendel, Richard Dean, and Danny Huston

The beautiful woman next had a short relationship with German singer, Rolf Brendel; this was in 1994. About two years earlier (in 1992), she was said to have had something with American actor, Richard Dean Anderson.

The Ice Princess, as she is referred to by her countrymen, was rumored to have dated another American actor (Danny Huston) in 1995 and another singer (Gregor Prächt) in 2002.

Her Relationship With Marcus Herrmann

In between her rumored relationships with Gregor Pracht and Danny Huston, she had a serious relationship with Marcus Herrmann, a businessman who is also from her country. The true depth of their relationship is unknown, but it is believed to be one of the most significant relationships of the former figure skater.

Other men Katarina Witt has reportedly dated included Dave Hoffis (2002 to 2003), Siegfried Wolf (2004), and Andreas Rüter (2008). To date, the German is yet to get married and does not have any children; at least to the best of our knowledge.
